Review: Tarte’s ‘Be Your Own Tarteist’ Palette + Swatches

5 Sep

Hi lovelies!

After picking up the Poppy Picnic palette from Tarte a few weeks ago, I found myself stalking the QVC UK website in order to see whether any new Tarte goodies were coming their way, when I saw the Miracles from the Amazon giftset pop up. The set includes a few other products (watch out for reviews if I love them or hate them), but what really caught my eye was the ‘Be Your Own Tarteist’ palette.

IMG_3876It has the exact same layout as the Poppy Picnic palette, but isn’t quite all matte. It does have four matte shadows, and the blush is totally matte, but there are two shimmery shadows included.

IMG_3877

The shades are t-b,l-r, Pink Beyond, Taupe For The Best, Dreams Plum True, Talented (blush), Out Of This Pearl, Thistle Be The Day and Paint The Brown.

Taupe For The Best and Out Of This Pearl both have a shimmery finish, but not glittery or frosty at all. They are firm to touch but still swatch beautifully in one swipe. I think the one weak point of this palette is the plum shade Dreams Plum True. The texture of the shadow is drier than the others, and Tarte’s mattes are really lovely, so it’s quite noticeable. I can definitely make it work as a liner, but I think it might be a little difficult to blend.

Once again, sucked in by the packaging, impressed by the actual product! Win win, right?
You can pick up this palette as part of a set on QVC UK for £34 (£38 inc. postage).

Hope you’re all having a wonderful day/night, wherever you are!

Tarte Amazonian Butter Lipstick in ‘Coral Blossom’ – Review + Swatches

23 Aug

Hi lovelies!

Just a quick post today on a lippie I’ve been loving lately, Tarte’s Amazonian Butter Lipstick in ‘Coral Blossom’.

IMG_3826

It’s a gorgeous, ever so slightly shimmery coral colour, that is a shine finish and is one of the most buildable lip products I’ve ever tried.

IMG_3827

You get 0.1oz of product in the full size for $17, which comes to about £12.50 once you pop the exchange rate on.

IMG_3829

IMG_3825My lips before (boriiinngg)

IMG_3828My lips after applying the lipstick.

This product looks pretty good with my slightly more tanned skin in comparison to my regular skin tone. It has a little bit of a tangerine feel to it, and so I think that paired with bronzer it looks gorge.

It lasts a good amount of time if you’re not eating, about five hours or so, but as soon as you eat it needs reapplication. The good thing is that you can just add more product instead of having to remove it all and reapply. It’s also dead minty. You can’t miss it!!!

This product is a part of the 2015 Give Me Some Lip Set, currently on Sephora’s website for $25.

That’s all for today, I hope you have a good day/evening, wherever you are!

L’Oreal True Match Foundation – Worth the hype?

30 Jun

Hello lovelies!

DSCN2025

Today’s post is all about the L’Oreal True Match Foundation and whether it is worth the hype that has been circling it in the blogging world. I am in the sade C1  Rose Ivory, which is the lightest sade of the ‘pink family’. L’Oreal often does the three tones thing, where they have varying degree of pink/yellow/neutral shades. Thumbs up from the red-faced gals out there!

DSCN2027

I’d say the coverage was a good medium, and it’s definitely buildable, probably due to the liquid to powder consistency. Speaking of, the consistency takes a little getting used to but once it’s perfected the finish is flawless.

DSCN2028

It’s got some pretty decent lasting power, I can go about 6-8 hours without looking at my face and still feel comfortable. After that, I need a little powder so I don’t get alllll gross.

DSCN2029

Blended out, it gives a semi-matte finish with a luminosity that you can’t really explain….that wasn’t super helpful. It’s not completely matte though. I do think it would satisfy the oily-skinned ladies with a little powder though.

DSCN2030
DSCN2031
So. Is it worth the hype? Personally I think YES. However, it’s definitely not going to be everyone’s cup of tea! For anyone with suuuuppper dry skin it’s probably going to cling to the dry patches. My skin kind of becomes combination in the summertime so it’s not too much of a problem for me at the moment, but I would absolutely recommend a good moisturise before applying it.

Thankyou for reading guys, if you’ve tried this foundation let me know what you think in a comment!
Have a lovely day/evening, wherever you are!

I’ve been a bit busy with a sort-of upgrade at work and loads of Uni presentations, so the blog has been a little neglected recently. *sad face*

Review: NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in ‘Amsterdam’ + Swatches!

4 Mar

Hello lovelies!

I’m so excited that this little product is now in my life. Even though I’m not always a red lip kinda gal, you always have to have that one colour just in case. I definitely have more than one red lip product (beauty blogger problems, am I right?) but if the situation presents itself, this might just be the one I reach for.

Image

Packaging: The tube is pretty travel-friendly, a hard plastic that is durable and nice and sleek. I like the font on the outside…is that a weird thing to notice? Haha!

Image

Wand: The wand is pretty standard, a doefoot applicator. Not sure whether that’s the best method of application of this product though, as your initial application can be a bit patchy (as my terrible lip swatch suggests).

Image

Pigmentation: Amsterdam is gorgeous. literally stunning. The pigmentation is pretty solid, I’d give it 8/10, just because you have to work with the formula a bit to get full coverage on your lips.

Image

Lasting power: I wore this for a good 4 hours without having to reapply. I reapplied on the go, between lectures with a little compact mirror. Totally fine. In fact, it actually looked better on the second application! Bizarre, huh?!

Image

It’s definitely a little more sheer than a standard lipstick. It’s very creamy, not at all drying on the lips. I find that’s a big plus, it feels more comfortable when you wear it than a lip gloss or lipstick. I’d put it on similar terms as a balm even!

Image

My look for the day was pretty natural. I skipped bronzer and blush and put on A LOT of mascara. This product is certainly a little gem. I’m gonna have to play a little bit more to be able to apply it perfectly. Red still flummoxes me when I have to apply it. I get so nervous about getting it wrong, that I always get it wrong!

I’m already planning on picking up a few more shades from this range when I get paid at the end of this month…so yeah, I would definitely recommend checking these out if you can!

If you’re in the UK like me, you can pick up the Soft Matte Lip Creams from the NYX website for £5.50.

if any of you have tried other shades, let me know in the comments which ones are the best! I need suggestions! 🙂

So there you go! Today is pancake day, a.k.a the best day in the world, however, I shall be neglecting the Nutella and opting for just a lil’ bit of sugar instead. I’ve been on a diet for the last month or so, and it’s going really well! I’ve lost just under a stone and a half so far…hoorah!

Hope you are having lovely days or evenings, wherever you are!

October Favourites + Swatches

10 Nov

Hello lovelies!

Today I’ve got a bunch of products to show you, plus swatches and a little bit of a daring FOTD for me. Stay tuned for that…

DSCN2288

DSCN2289

Sleek Blush By 3 Palette in ‘Lace’ – £10

I finally put this palette to use – I love the shade ‘Chantilly’, a gorgeous matte hot coral. Wow wow wow. You have to be careful with these blushes, as they’re so pigmented. This blush palette is going to last me forever. It’s great value and quality. Can’t wait to check out the other Blush By 3 palettes.

DSCN2293

Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot Mattifying Powder – £12
This stuff has been so so good to me (you can probably tell from the major pan that you’re seeing) – but during October it just shone as a holy grail product. Living without this just doesn’t seem plausible to me, could I possibly go on if I lost it?! Who can tell? It’s totally translucent, works on loadsa skin colours and types, and is affordable. Run to Boots. Run.

DSCN2303

BareMinerals The Next Big Thing Palette (LE) – £29

I first spotted this on Temptalia around six months ago, promptly fell in love and then discovered it was limited edition! I searched high and low for it, including on the Bare Minerals website, and than randomly stumbled across it in the Debenhams sale. I’m pretty sure it was 13.50, which is incredible for a palette of this quality, and the brand’s reputable image only helped me to snap it up. The colours are never usually what I would wear on my lids, but that coral drew me in and ever since, I’ve been falling further and further in love. The gold-y shades are beautifully pigmented, the coral is so so unique on the eyes, and the blackened plum makes a gorgeous liner. I must have used shades from this palette at least ten times during October, and for me, that’s pretty good.

DSCN2306Benefit Posietint – full size £24.50

Just a long-time fave of mine, it’s on my Christmas list and this little deluxe sample has lasted me forever. I love it on my lips the most, but it gives a gorgeous flush to the cheeks too.

DSCN2309ModelCo More Brows in Medium/Dark – £10

This is an exact dupe for Gimme Brow except that it doesn’t get all gross after a couple of uses. It distributes product nice and evenly along the brow and is inexpensive in comparison to the Benefit version. Big ole thumbs up from me!

DSCN2311Estee Lauder Double Wear Brush On Glow BB Highlighter – £23.50
I purchased this on a bit of a whim, and I’m so glad I did. Not only is it a great mutipurpose concealer/corrector/highlighter, but I’ve honestly used it since April EVERY single day (minus lazy days) and it’s still going strong. This is the never-ending product. It’s glowy, long lasting and although it’s a little pricy, I think it’s well worth it.

DSCN2314

Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 01 – full size £18
The smell of this product is incredible, I just can’t get over it. I heard the hype, I listened, I put it off. Then I saw a little value set in Sephora with a mini for a minimal price. I jumped at the chance. These are so so comfortable, this colour is flattering and the line is well worth the hype.

DSCN2321DSCN2336Aaaaand that’s all of that stuff on my face. With a coral and icy gold eye. Eeeeep.

DSCN2342

So those were my October favourites. Is there anything you’ve been loving lately? Please let me know in the comments and fuel my addiction.

Have a great day/evening, wherever you are!

HAUL: Birthday Buys feat. YSL, Topshop and The Body Shop!

30 Aug

Hello lovelies!
ImageDefinitely splurged and treated myself in Windsor with my friend Jess a few days ago.

ImagePink Grapefruit Body Puree | £2
Pink Grapefruit Body Scrub | £12.50
Pink Grapefruit Shower Gel | £2

all available at The Body Shop.

Big love for The Body Shop at the moment, as they just do summer scents right. I love the mix of sweet and sour that the Pink Grapefruit scent provides me, and I already own the body butter, so these guys are more to add to my collection! As it’s my birthday month, I got £5 off my purchase, and it was 3 for 2 on all products, so I got all of this for £9.50! Successful bargain!

ImageClean and Clear Blackhead Cleanser | £3.50

available at Boots and Superdrug.

I have the regular cleanser and wanted to try this out as the scent is a little less…overwhelming and I’ve been noticing tat the other cleanser doesn’t seem to have many skin benefits. Let’s see how this goes!

ImageImageTopshop Matte Lipstick in Whimsical | £8

available at Topshop.

Been looking for a cooler-toned coral for a little while so that I can work it into the autumn months without looking like I’m lusting for summer. I love it whenever I find a Topshop with makeup and had to make the difficult decision between a lipstick and a blush for a while. The lipstick won. How beautiful is that?

ImageImageYSL Glossy Stain in No.27 | from £22.50

available at YSL counters.

Eeep! I splashed out on another YSL product. I think I will only spend money on something that I can keep forever and that is worth the cash. Ever since I first ventured into the world of YSL, I’ve wanted a Glossy Stain. When I first bought my Volupte Sheer Candy, the assistant desperately tried to sell me this, even though the Sheer Candy was more money. I picked this up because it’s my ‘comfortable colour’. I’ll get a lot of use out of it and it’s JUST SO PRETTY. If anyone would like to buy me the whole line for my birthday, feel free.

So, there’s my little haul! I’m really looking forward to a lovely relaxing birthday tomorrow, and to going out with my friends for a bit tonight. Hope you’re all having a lovely day or evening!

HAUL! Soap & Glory, Revlon and Maybelline!

8 Apr
Hello lovelies!

I’ve been home for the last week and a bit, and it has been SO RELAXING! I’m a first year uni student, so this time is supposed to be ‘revision’ time, but of course I HAD to go to Boots while the 3 for 2 offer is on (it’s still on for a little while, so run RUN to the shops and take advantage!!) Oh I do love it when they do that!

The very first thing I bought was the much-hyped Nearly Naked Foundation from Revlon. I was so intrigued by it, and did succumb to the hype! Very impressed so far, if you’d like a review then let me know. 🙂 I have the shade ‘Ivory’, which I THINK is the lightest shade. (I just don’t like that screw top!)

Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation is available at Boots and Superdrug and is priced at £8.99.

Image

Next up is a cream blush from Revlon called ‘Pinched’. I saw the YouTuber essiebutton talking about this blush a couple of months ago, and seeing as she has a similar skintone/skin type to me and she loved it, I decided I had to have it. I love the sleek circular pot, and I think that the product itself is good. I have quite a bit of redness on my cheeks, so once I neutralise that, I don’t always want to add blush, but this muted coral-coloured one does the trick. It’s quite sheer, incredibly easy to blend with a brush or your fingers and is from Revlon, whose face products rarely disappoint.

Revlon Cream Blush in Pinched is available at Boots or Superdrug and is priced at £7.99.

Image

Image

The next thing I got was Soap & Glory’s answer to a high-end, world-famous lip and cheek tint, Cheekmate. It caught my eye a few months ago and although I’ve been lusting after Benefit’s Benetint for aaggggeeesss, it’s just not in my price-range for one product. This was in the 3 for 2 and is a nifty little £8. I actually bought two, one for me and one for my mum, as she doesn’t have many brushes and like to apply make-up with her fingers, plus she’s a huge fan of Soap and Glory in general. Believe it or not, she has all but one of their eye products! Shades and all! She loves it, and I have to say I do too. This has raspberry seed and kiwi extract, as well as Vitamin C in it, and it’s also supposed to improve circulation in your facial capillaries. I’m not sure I need that in my cheeks, but in your lips it sounds like a fab thing!

Soap & Glory’s Cheekmate is available from Boots exclusively and is priced at £7.99.

Image

Image

While browsing around the Soap & Glory stand (seriously the best looking stand in any Boots shop!), I saw the Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss sticks. I live for Soap & Glory’s punny names for their products, don’t you just love ’em! There are only three shades of this, Fuschia-ristic (which I own and love), Nudist (ooo-errr!), and Plum Jam, which I picked up! I loved my first one, it smells like marshmallows and feels lovely on the lips. This is a burgundy-plummy shade would have been lovely for Autumn/Winter, but to be honest, I’ll wear it at any time of the year, I don’t care! I like how it’s a twist-up pecil type product even though it’s a lip gloss/stick. It’s a perfect dupe for the Revlon Kissable Balm stains, but smells better in my opinion! Lasts for a good few hours too! I definitely recommend these!

Soap & Glory’s Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks are available from Boots exclusively and are priced at £8.

Image

Image

The very last thing I picked up was a quad from Maybelline in ‘Bronze Drama’. I got this a little earlier in the month, from Superdrug, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere online. It’s an Eyestudio quad though, which has a large highlight champagne shade, an orange-gold, a gorgeous khaki, and a deep green that’s allmmmost black. It’s a gorgeous selection of colour, if a little random. I love the champagne and khaki. All four shades are nicely pigmented and buttery.

So that’s my cheeky little haul for you! This is the first time I’ve been shopping to Boots and Superdrug in months, believe it or not!

Do you prefer applying make-up with or without brushes? Is foundation best applied with fingers?

Hope you’re all having wonderful days/evenings!

Christie xoxo
