Hello August

6 Aug

Hi lovelies!

So. My summer job is complete.

*large sigh of relief*

For the past six weeks or so, I’ve been working at a summer language camp in Hertfordshire as an Activity Leader. I’ve never been so thankful for a job to be over and done with, let me tell you.

It’s been a rough few months for my family, but I’m determined to come out the other end of this bizarre first half of the year with a smile on my face and a determination to finish university and find a job that I love. Plus it’s my birthday month! Which means lots of friends and family round for our annual barbecue at the end of the month! ๐Ÿ™‚

A few things that I’ve been loving lately…

The Line Up
These girls are phe-nom-e-nal. I’m blown away by the amount of talent they have, and the amount of effort they put into each one of their YouTube videos is astounding. I’m not a fan of style blogs, or even style videos really, but it’s a testament to them how eager I am to watch every new video when it’s released.

If you’re a TV fan like I am, you’ll have heard about the summer show that has stolenย the spotlight from True Detective and OINTB. UnReal is a scripted drama about the behind-the-scenes action of a reality dating show named ‘Everlasting’ – think ‘The Bachelor’ meets ‘The Newsroom’. Plus, the walk and talks are pretty spectacular and the eye candy ain’t bad either.

Pop Culture Happy Hour and Talking TV
Last year, when I came out of my binge-stupor after finishing the last episode of ‘Serial’ (true crime podcast about the murder of a young girl in 1999) ย I was searching for something a little lighter. These two podcasts are the best of the bunch, IMO. Pop Culture Happy Hour is a round-table style podcast that revolves around what the participants are watching, reading and listening to. I immediately fell head over heels for the regulars on this – in particular Linda Holmes, Stephen Thompson and Glen Weldon, who have been at the table since the first taping over five years ago. Head back through their feed and you’ll definitely find an episode that is in your wheelhouse. And speaking of wheelhouses, mine is pretty much Talking TV with Ryan and Ryan. These guys know what they are talking about. Full stop. It’s structured simply as a conversation between Ryan McGee and Maureen ‘Mo’ Ryan (HuffPo), two critics who really know their stuff. Download a few episodes (and bear with the ‘down a well’ quality of Mo’s voice sometimes) and get ready to be televisionlightened.

So that’s it from me this time guys. Hopefully see you soon with a beauty post. (I’ve been shamelessly buying something every time I feel down in the dumps or need a pick-me-up.)

Hope you have an amazing day or night, wherever you are!

TotallyChristie TotallyRecommends: TV Shows

The cast as of Season 7.

This is (obviously) not a photo I took or that I own. All copyright goes to ABC/Grey’s Anatomy. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello lovelies!

Today I’ll be making another little TotallyRecommends post, but this time, it’s about a TV show!

I’m a huge TV addict. You name it, I’ve heard of it aaaaaaand probably watched an episode. You could say I have too much time on my hands. The problem is is that my favourite programmes change all the time, and sometimes shows don’t do as well as I hope they will, or they get cancelled by their networks. In addition, there are some shows that just come to a natural finish. The problem with shows like those are that I ALWAYS WANT MORE.ย

After that long winded intro, the TV Show I am going to recommend is……..

I love this show for several reasons.

1. There are nine seasons. So far. Nine. That makes for great character development, intricate storylines, lots of episodes to rewatch and an established presence in the online media.
2. The characters are flawed, but incredibly likeable. There have only been a few characters in those nine seasons that I have disliked for their entire time on the show. There are currently 2 characters I dislike, but have you seen that cast?! It’s a huge ensemble. 2 out of that many ain’t bad.
3. Continuity! Something that a lot of shows seem to disregard nowadays is continuity. Grey’s knows its history.ย
4. Long episodes that are both dramatic and comedic. Usually comedy comes in 22 minute bursts from networks. Just think of New Girl, Big Bang Theory, Modern Family. Drama is usually so long that I get bored of the storyline of the week halfway through. With Grey’s Anatomy, you get both. (Well, in the earlier seasons anyway.)
5. Final reason (that I can think of) is that it makes me really, really emotional. And that’s what I want in TV. Something that will make me laugh, cry, shout, scream, smile.

And the best bit is that it’s. still. going.ย

Disclaimer: Start watching this show at your own peril. It’s totes emosh. You will need tissues.
Oh, and hot guys galore by the way. You’re welcome. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hope you enjoyed that little recommendation! Let me know if there’s a show that you’d totally recommend, or if you watch Grey’s Anatomy/watch an episode after reading this post!
Hope you all have a wonderful day/night!

TotallyChristie TotallyRecommends: Beauty Vloggers

6 Mar

Hello lovelies!

Hopefully am going to be posting a lot more, so keep your eyes peeled for more product reviews, recommendations and hauls!

Today I’m going to be starting a new regular feature, which is TotallyChristie TotallyRecommends! I’m going to be sharing with you beauty vloggers who know their stuff, who I love or who are bubbling with personality! Preferably all three!

The very first beauty vlogger that I recommend is…..

Bio: Known for her outrageous wit and fabulous eyebrows, Rachel Whitehurst is a college student at Millersville University in Pennsylvania, USA. She has currently just over 70,000 subscribers on Youtube, and has made over 300 videos. She is not only a beauty vlogger, but she also records covers, makes weekly vlog videos called ‘word vomits’ and makes rant videos.

Why I like her: Her videos are consistently uploaded, she has great style and knows her way around a Naked Palette. What you see is what you get, and with beauty vloggers, that isn’t always the case. She has an incredible personality, and the fact that there is a wide variety of videos on her channel means that you never see the same thing over and over again.

What video do I recommend?

Her NYE tutorial is a perfect demo of what she’s good at and it also gives you a good sense of her humour and video style.

Definitely hope you enjoy her, I think she’s not only hilarious but also…good at make-up! Which I know might sound obvious, but there are a ton of incredibly crap gurus out there. Just saying!

Let me know in the comments whether you a. like this new feature and b. like or just checked out Rachel’s videos!

Warning: There is some profanity in Rachel’s videos. Please don’t watch her videos if you take offence to swearing, just a warning! ๐Ÿ˜€
