Lust Haves – Summer 2013 2.0

27 Jun

Hello lovelies!
I’m going shopping tomorrow, and plan to return with many beautiful things, as I got my first ever full month’s wages the other day! These are what I’ve been lusting over for a few busy (and blog-less) few weeks.
Image

1. Revlon’s Nail Enamel in ‘Bare Bones’
I saw this a few months back on essiebutton’s blog and as I’m a big lover of nude nail polish, I wanted it instantly. It slipped to the back of my mind, but as I was sorting through my collection the other day, I realised that a. I didn’t have it and b.I really wanted it.

2. Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream
This is a holy grail product for so many people, but I have never had any interest in Elizabeth Arden products. However, I break out around my chin all the time and I’m hoping this might solve dry skin and spots around there. Probably not but it’s worth a go!

3. Bourjois Vintage Little Round Blush Pot in Rose d’Or
These are so cute, and that’s basically my reasoning behind wanting this! Also, as a French student, anything with French-esque packaging is basically a compulsory buy.

Sorry I’ve been so absent lately guys! Hoping to get some more posts in soon! 🙂

Also thought I’d share this gem with you.

My Life In Pictures: May 2013

31 May

Image

1. My friend Kent riding down the hill on the scooter that was found in my boot.
2. Beautiful Uni. Not many people see this stuff, as it’s on a hidden hill.
3. Outrageous selfie on the evening of a wonderful birthday meal out celebrating a Uni friend’s 19th.
4. Swatching. Life of a beauty blogger.
5. Oh SO PRETTY! (shame it stained though!)
6. Nandos please? My first trip without my parents or a big group. Was a lovely girls shopping day!
7. Windsor on a beautiful May bank holiday. My parents came to visit and it was so wonderful to see them after 8 weeks alone.
8. Gaming night with my guy-flatmates, Charlie, Stephen and Roo. All the other girls have left/were packing/travelling, and so we played COD. Well, I say we, I controlled the headset.
9. My little sister (on the right) and her best friend Millie. They’ve both grown up so much in the time I’ve been at Uni. Makes me sad that I missed spending the time with them, but it also reminds me that people change!

I post loads of life and beauty photos on my Instagram. My username is christieannturner if you would like to follow me!

I hope you’ve had a marvellous May! I got my first set of wages from my new job, made some awesome new friends, treasured time with family and Uni friends and bought a LOT of make-up. I can’t wait for June. Moving out of my Uni flat, into my place for the summer (don’t even get me started), a weekend at home with family and beautiful friends and hard work!

NOTD: Peachy Keen!

23 May

Hello lovelies!
Another post! Ooh look at me!
Hopefully you’ve all been having wonderful, beauty-filled days. I’m relatively excited for my post-exams shopping strip with my friend Steph tomorrow, so I’m all hyped. up. If you saw my Lust Haves post, then you’ll know that I’m all hyped up for summer. Estee Lauder counter, here I come!
Image

In the Spring/Summer spirit, I used Nails Inc.’s ‘You’re a Peach’ on my nails to give them that pop of pastel. 2 coats (with a few little touchups), but you could get away with one for a sheer, relaxed nail polish look.

Hope you’re all having a peach-y day! Get it? 😀

Summer Make-Up and Beauty Products Haul! Revlon, The Body Shop, Rimmel, Benefit and Elie Saab

14 May
Hello lovelies!

I got my student loan through a couple of weeks ago, and decided to treat myself to a couple of products I’d been lusting over.

The first thing I did was buy a perfume. I’ve been wanting Elie Saab’s Eau de Parfum for a long time now, about 5 or 6 months. It’s just so damn expensive, and I’ve never really been a perfume girl. Having just got a new job where I’d be working long hours, I wanted a scent to stay with me for the day. This totally does. I got the travel set, so it’s 3 x 20ml bottles that can be placed inside a gold metal travalo-esque spray bottle. I actually got this because you got more product for your money compared to the regular bottle, and I’m always on the go, so a travel set suits me better. I also got a free Elie Saab perfume bag and body lotion with purchase! YAY! I do love a freebie.

Image

Because I bought that off of the Boots website, I got some points, which bumped my points total up to a mental 1900, worth £19. I took advantage of the 3 for 2 Revlon offer, and bought 2 of the new lip butters, Juicy Papaya and Wild Watermelon, and a cream blush in Coral Reef. I got all of this with my Boots points, and a free sample of a Seventeen foundation too. Result!

ImageImage

Next up, I placed an order at The Body Shop. I can’t even remember when I last bought something from The Body Shop, I always just steal the stuff I like from my Mum! Haha! We’ve all done it! I picked up a Choccie Body Butter (I already own the Mango and the Strawberry and I lurrrvvvee them), a Lemon Lip Butter (smells like Lemon Drizzle cake), a Pomegranate Lip Balm which gives a bit of colour, and a lip balm trio of the Born Lippy brand. I love those Born Lippys, and doesn’t it seem like they’ve been around forever? I also picked up a face scrub, but I think I’ll be doing a more in depth review of that soooon 🙂

ImageImageImageImage

(Just a quick sidenote, I gave a lip balm to my lovely friend Kent, but there were three, and don’t you just love the little novelty tins things come in? I’ve put all my little Benefit samples in this one!)

Next up I bought a couple of magazines, Elle and Instyle. Elle came with a free deluxe sample of Benefit’s ‘They’re Real’ Mascara, which I own the full size of, but they claimed that the mini was worth £9.50! :O And Instyle came with a gorgeous Nails Inc. nail polish, and I got the shade ‘You’re a Peach’, which I looove. Perfect for spring/summer!

ImageImage
Last but certainly not least, I picked up a few things from Rimmel whilst food shopping (bizarre or opportunistic?) the other day at Tesco. It was 3 for 2, the Apocalips were on sale and it had been a long day. I bagged the Apocalips Lip Lacquer in ‘Stellar’, the Powder Blush in ‘Bronze’ and the Match Perfection Foundation in ‘Ivory’. I would usually have gone for the lightest shade, but Rimmel’s Wake Me Up foundation is a perfect match for me in Ivory. Actually, when I compared them at home, the Match Perfection seemed a little lighter!
ImageImageImageOkay, so there’s my haul! I tried reaaallly hard with the photos in this post, so if you liked them (and didn’t think there were too many), then I would love it if you ‘liked’ this post!

Today and tomorrow are my first days off from work in a while. I got a little touch of tonsillitis a couple of days ago, and drugged myself up silly with strepsils and flu tablets and antibiotics and I think I might be on the road to recovery! I have an exam tomorrow as well, so I might need to do a bit of revision…..but Game of Thrones Season 3 is calling my name…!

Hope you are all having a beautiful day or night,
Christie xoxo

P.S. If you need to blame anyone for any of these purchases, blame Estée and her darn YouTube videos! Every time she says crackalackin’ I have to buy something. It’s a rule I made up. 😉 Check out her videos for a unique and HONEST view of beauty products, and also, she’s beautiful!

Collect It!: Barry M Nail Polish

5 May

Image

Hello lovelies!

Hope you’re all having a wonderful day or night! I’m prepping for a full week at work, a quiz night with my colleagues and a big get together with my flatmates, so I’m making sure I have everything sorted. I recently tidied up my make-up and beauty products, and I realised that I’ve managed to accumulate a few Barry M nail polishes. These polishes are super silky to apply, have a good formula in general, a great selection of colours, and the best thing is that they are super duper cheap! Ranging in price from £2.99 to £4.99, you really can’t go wrong.

Here is a picture of the polishes I have, and then a few closeups to see how gorgeous they all are! #nailpolishaddict

Bloomin’ love these polishes. Gonna be using that coral shade to death this summer!

Have a wonderful evening/day/morning, wherever you are! If you have the chance to get these polishes, then do! I know that Boots, Superdrug and even Asos stock them 🙂

Christie xoxo

NOTD: Blue Me Away

30 Apr

*Quick sidenote before I start this post: I’ve been loving Pinterest lately! If you’d like to follow me on there, that would be awesome, because it would give me more people to follow! Now on with the post!*

Hello lovelies!

Just a little NOTD post for you – there was a time on this blog where I actually called these posts NOTY (Nails of the Year) because I never wore nail polish. How times have changed! This was the very first polish I featured on my blog over a year ago! I would like to think that my blog has improved (and my photos too!) since then!
ImageImage

Now that it’s getting into spring/summer in the UK (it lasts for such a short amount of time that you have to blend them into one), I decided to re-vamp my nail polish collection and choices. I’m a big fan of the Barry M polishes, and I have quite a few now (would anyone like to see a collection?) so this colour jumped out as a natural choice. It’s easy to work with (three thin coats, dried quickly, good formula) and the colour is just what you need to make you feel light and airy!
Image

In other news, my student loan came in, and since I worked a 40 hour week at a part-time job last week, I decided I would treat myself in advance, so there should be a little haul coming up! Today I’m just planning on taking some photos while I have beautiful weather for it, and I’m producing a show of Julius Caesar with the Shakespeare Society at my Uni, and it’s the second day of auditions tonight. I love auditioning people! 🙂

Hope you’re all having a beautiful day, and that it’s as nice where you are as it is where I am! 🙂

Christie xoxo

HAUL :D

21 Oct

WELL WELL WELL. Look at this snazzy new look.

So, as I mentioned in the last post, it was my birthday while I was away. And I actually received money from my Dad and my Nan also, so I went on a bit of a shopping spree with one of my best friends, Beth. We went to our local ‘big’ shopping centre, had Pinkberry which was lush, got very stuck in huge amounts of traffic on the way back and spent too much money, as usual. Seeing as I’ve had these products for just over a month now, each will have a little mini-review in the caption for you 🙂 Here is a list and a few pictures of a few of the things I bought!

Image

Sally Hansen’s ‘Double Duty’ Base and Top Coat. Good for a clean, crisp finish. Can’t say I’ve seen huge benefits in using it as a base coat, but it’s a gorgeous top coat and much less expensive than some top coats that do similar things. A solid 3/5.

Image

MUA’s ‘Heaven and Earth’ Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette. £4 at Superdrug. Great colours and even better price! It’s supposed to be a high street answer to one of the infamous Urban Decay Naked Palettes. I mean, I’m impressed. The packaging’s relatively sturdy with no frills and I think you get a good deal for so many well pigmented colours. Another good 3/5…because it’s just not the same.

Image

Benefit’s ‘They’re Real’ Mascara- Full Size and a Deluxe Mini for £18.50. The most expensive make-up product I have EVER bought. But, this was my birthday present to myself. 🙂 I’m also glad that I picked it up when I did, because you got the free little mini size included. And that deal’s now over. 😦 I’ve gotta say, it is probably the best mascara I have tried. It lasts forever. Having said that, I haven’t tried many mascaras, and some of the high street alternatives that I have tried have come relatively close. I definitely don’t regret buying this, but do consider how pricy it is before you splurge on an item that you might not love to pieces. I have really very uneven eyelashes, and by that I mean that my right eyelashes are much fuller naturally than my left ones. So I like a mascara that can really separate what I have of my left eyelashes… this nearly does it. Another good 3, maybe 3.5/5. Because it’s Benefit.

Image

Lush’s ‘You Snap The Whip’ Body Butter. Oh my goodness. I have never loved the smell of something so much. We actually spent over an hour in Lush. Blame the over-attentive sales assistant. Om nom nom this smells like blackcurrants through and through. It lingers for just long enough on your skin, and I’m desperately trying to savour what I have left of it. It wasn’t expensive either. Go and check out the smell in your local Lush. It’s worth it. 5/5.

Image

Lush’s ‘Creamy Candy’ Bubble Bar. This was actually a gift to my sister. I hope she likes it because I think it smells ‘lush’. Aha. Get it? Is very lovely all around in the smell department, but I can’t tell you what I think of its actual function. I’m sorry! Maybe a guest post from my sister lol…

Image

The Real Techniques ‘Core Collection’ brush kit. Ouch, these were expensive. I justified the amount I spent in Boots that day by telling myself that I’d get loads of Boots Points. Hurrah! You get four brushes for around £21/£22. I’m not going to lie, they’re worth it and I really want more. But the thing is, they are so expensive. I just think that if you invest in anything in the beauty world, make-up brushes are the most important things. You can have an amazingly expensive high-end Chanel foundation, but without the right brush, it’s not going to be worth the money you spend.A good 4/5, and I’m only knocking off a point because they’re so expensive.

Image

The Real Techniques ‘Blush Brush’. This was SO SOFT. It still is. I use it as more of a powder brush though. It’s much less dense than blush brushes I’ve had in the past, but it’s definitely a much higher quality. This was actually around the £10 mark when I first looked at it, but I took advantage of a ‘buy one, get one half price’ deal that was on these brushes, so it was around £5 in the end. I actually use it for powder sometimes, but it’s very versatile, and I tested it against by old Barry M powder brush and the Barry M brush felt like it was scraping against my skin after using this bad boy. Another 4/5 though, because I still resent paying £26 on make-up brushes.

Image

Topshop’s Lipstick in ‘Ohh La La’. A pastelish coral. This is (I think) an almost matte finish lipstick. I received a Topshop giftcard for my birthday and seeing as I’m not interested in their clothing, I treated myself to two make-up items, as Topshop’s line of make-up has been gathering gusto recently in the beauty community and I wanted to see whether their products lived up to the hype. Review to come shortly, but spoiler alert. Big fan. 4/5.

Image

Topshop’s Cheek Duo in ‘Desert Sun’. A blusher and bronzer separately that when you mix together, can be used as a highlighter? Okay. I was intrigued. A nice 3/5. Review coming up.

Image

I always go back to Simple’s face wipes! 5/5, nice an gentle on the skin and take off more make-up at the £2 mark than the £7 No7 ones do.

Image

A cheeky picture of my friend Beth with a choccie milkshake. The best milkshakes ever are served at ‘Ed’s Diner’. There’s a few dotted about the country, so if you see one, run to a table.

Image

The damage we did in 6 hours. Oh dear. Our purses were much lighter.

Image

Pinkberry! I had Mango and Chocolate with chocolate bits and bobs, strawberries and pineapple. Beth had Watermelon with healthy things. Silly billy.

SO, there we go. That wasn’t too bad at all. I’ve got loads of posts planned, so hopefully I can get them up and running ASAP.
Don’t forget to smile,
Christie xoxo 🙂

Separated at Birth: Coral Products

22 Aug

Fest of All kit, including a nail polish in ‘Tropical Island’, eyeliner in black, and Instant Glow Body Bronzer in Medium Matte.

Oh my goodness!
I’ve had this post planned for SO long. I had a meltdown with the photos on my phone, but in truth, I just haven’t found the time to post lately! If there’s still someone reading this, then you’re angels and very patient!

About a month and a half ago, I was browsing in Boots (my Boots is very small, so it didn’t take long) and there were loads of deals on make-up. Free gifts are my weakness, and they only inspire more make-up purchases for me (like that needs to happen!) so I couldn’t pass up 17’s ‘Fest of All’ free kit. Unfortunately, the offer’s now ended, but I thought I’d show you the products quickly.

The eyeliner’s just a standard black liner, relatively pigmented but nothing special.
The Instant Glow Body Bronzer in Medium Matte baffled me at first, as I’m not a bronzer kind of girl, but I vowed to use it for something. As summer progressed, I had no idea what to use it for. then my foundation started getting too light for me. Add this to the mix (carefully) and you’ve got a perfect customized foundation for summer with no extra cost. The best way I can describe it is as a gel, but it dries very quickly and smells nice, and doesn’t come with the biscuity scent that a lot of fake tans and gradual tanners have attached.

Now to the point of the post! The nail varnish! The colour of this nail varnish is ‘Tropical Island’ and it’s a beautiful orangey-coral with small gold shimmer. The gold shimmer isn’t glitter, it’s very subtle and just catches the light every now and then.

I really love the consistency of this polish, it dries with a gorgeous sheen and takes two coats to become opaque. The staying power is excellent,it’s been on my toes for a week now and has only chipped on one nail! The consistency is easy to work with, despite the brush being a little small.
I’d give this polish a solid 3.5/5.

However, when I first saw it, something triggered in my mind. I thought, ‘my my, I’m sure I’ve got a colour like that somewhere’, and I searched my nail-polish collection (which now has over 50 polishes :S) but to no avail… and then I remembered! I had a lip gloss that exact colour!
The lip gloss is a NYX Girls Gloss in the colour Apricot. These two products are so similar in colour it’s extraordinary. I took a few pictures (which are hopefully okay) to show you what I mean. NYX Girls Glosses (although aimed at a younger generation) have great pigmentation and are smooth and last a while 🙂 I picked up mine from a make-up seller, but the UK NYX website sells them at the reasonable price of £3.

17 Nail Polish in ‘Tropical Island’ and NYX Girls Gloss in ‘Apricot’

Product Close-Ups

17 Nail Polish in ‘Tropical Island’ and NYX Girls Gloss in ‘Apricot’

(I used the app ‘PicStitch to amalgamate the pictures, and used a coral background!)

Considering the lip gloss has now become pretty much my favourite summer lip colour, I’d definitely recommend checking the other colours out!
If you like this idea of separated at birth posts, then let me know because I’m quite sure I have loads of colour doubles 🙂
I actually would never have ‘shopped my stash’ (as the lip gloss was pretty much forgotten and lost in my collection) if it wasn’t for Louise at Sprinkle of Glitter. She’s definitely my favourite beauty blogger and she does Youtube videos too. Check out her blog and channel 🙂

Have any of you found products that look like they’re identical colours before? 🙂

Don’t forget to smile,
Christie xoxo 🙂
