Feeling high end, wanting low maintenance

3 Feb

Hi lovelies!

A quick product recommendation for you today, in the form of the smoothest, hydrating and glowy products I’ve found for that ultimate low-key lip.

IMG_4287

The Dior Lip Glow Color Reviver Balms are pretty much balmy perfection. I had the flu recently (that’s what you get when you work with kids) and it just about floored me. My skin suffered, but these guys kept me going and my lips didn’t get dry! Hoorah!

IMG_4291

Now, don’t get me wrong, they’re a glorified lip balm. They have a sheer tint, they smell ever so slightly spearmint-y, and they are, of course, ridiculously overpriced. Buuuut, they feel great to use. If you fancy feeling fancy, then the next time you’re near a Dior counter, have a swatch and see for yourselves!

You can find Dior at most department stores, and online at feelunique.com. The Dior Lip Glow Color Reviver Balms retail for £24.

October Favourites + Swatches

10 Nov

Hello lovelies!

Today I’ve got a bunch of products to show you, plus swatches and a little bit of a daring FOTD for me. Stay tuned for that…

DSCN2288

DSCN2289

Sleek Blush By 3 Palette in ‘Lace’ – £10

I finally put this palette to use – I love the shade ‘Chantilly’, a gorgeous matte hot coral. Wow wow wow. You have to be careful with these blushes, as they’re so pigmented. This blush palette is going to last me forever. It’s great value and quality. Can’t wait to check out the other Blush By 3 palettes.

DSCN2293

Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot Mattifying Powder – £12
This stuff has been so so good to me (you can probably tell from the major pan that you’re seeing) – but during October it just shone as a holy grail product. Living without this just doesn’t seem plausible to me, could I possibly go on if I lost it?! Who can tell? It’s totally translucent, works on loadsa skin colours and types, and is affordable. Run to Boots. Run.

DSCN2303

BareMinerals The Next Big Thing Palette (LE) – £29

I first spotted this on Temptalia around six months ago, promptly fell in love and then discovered it was limited edition! I searched high and low for it, including on the Bare Minerals website, and than randomly stumbled across it in the Debenhams sale. I’m pretty sure it was 13.50, which is incredible for a palette of this quality, and the brand’s reputable image only helped me to snap it up. The colours are never usually what I would wear on my lids, but that coral drew me in and ever since, I’ve been falling further and further in love. The gold-y shades are beautifully pigmented, the coral is so so unique on the eyes, and the blackened plum makes a gorgeous liner. I must have used shades from this palette at least ten times during October, and for me, that’s pretty good.

DSCN2306Benefit Posietint – full size £24.50

Just a long-time fave of mine, it’s on my Christmas list and this little deluxe sample has lasted me forever. I love it on my lips the most, but it gives a gorgeous flush to the cheeks too.

DSCN2309ModelCo More Brows in Medium/Dark – £10

This is an exact dupe for Gimme Brow except that it doesn’t get all gross after a couple of uses. It distributes product nice and evenly along the brow and is inexpensive in comparison to the Benefit version. Big ole thumbs up from me!

DSCN2311Estee Lauder Double Wear Brush On Glow BB Highlighter – £23.50
I purchased this on a bit of a whim, and I’m so glad I did. Not only is it a great mutipurpose concealer/corrector/highlighter, but I’ve honestly used it since April EVERY single day (minus lazy days) and it’s still going strong. This is the never-ending product. It’s glowy, long lasting and although it’s a little pricy, I think it’s well worth it.

DSCN2314

Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 01 – full size £18
The smell of this product is incredible, I just can’t get over it. I heard the hype, I listened, I put it off. Then I saw a little value set in Sephora with a mini for a minimal price. I jumped at the chance. These are so so comfortable, this colour is flattering and the line is well worth the hype.

DSCN2321DSCN2336Aaaaand that’s all of that stuff on my face. With a coral and icy gold eye. Eeeeep.

So those were my October favourites. Is there anything you’ve been loving lately? Please let me know in the comments and fuel my addiction.

Have a great day/evening, wherever you are!

May Beauty Favourites

3 Jun

Hello lovelies! Got some favourites to share with you.
ImageFirst up is The Righteous Butter from Soap & Glory. I need all the moisture I can get now that I work outside. This smells divine and the scent lingers, does the job and makes me feel less dry.
ImageThen I have something that I haven’t shared with you yet, my Estee Lauder Pure Colour Lipstick in ‘Tiramisu Shimmer’. It was a freebie with a recent purchase, but it’s absolutely gorgeous and is a great colour to wear when you have a natural makeup work code. It feels lovely on your lips, and I think I’ve worn it every day since I got it.
ImageImageImage

I am a serious make-up thief when it comes to my sister’s collection. She never uses her make-up, and I think that’s a waste. So I whipped this one out of her make-up bag. She hasn’t noticed yet, and I’ll buy her a new one when she does! It’s the Rimmel Glam Eyes Trio in Orion. I use the brown mixed with the white for a brow powder. I don’t dye my brows, but I do dye my hair. It’s difficult to pull off lighter brows with darker hair, although the opposite combination seems to be very popular. This powder gives the perfect amount of colour and lasts. It’s a great eyeshadow palette too.

ImageImageAs I mentioned, I work outside, and I found in the first few weeks that my lips were feeling SO dry. I started off with some Carmex, but it felt a little slick for constant talking. This Nivea Lip Balm has been a big hit in my books. I also have the blue classic version, and a pearly shine one, but this gives me a little colour also, which I like. It’s the Nivea Soft Rose Lip Balm.

ImageI’ve also been loving my Real Techniques Blush Brush this month, as it has about three hundred different uses and cleans so easily. I’ve used it for bronzer, blush, face powder and highlight all in one week! Crazy!
ImageImageBeen loving scented things for summer, and so I whacked out my Pink Grapefruit Neutrogena Moisturiser once I ran out of the unscented version. It smells lovely in the mornings and is sinks in nice and quickly. A big hit on the days where you’re in a rush!
ImageThen I have Stay Don’t Stray, which is a concealer/primer from Benefit. Benefit’s my favourite high-end make-up brand, and I literally love this so much that I might have to splash out on the full size. £23.50 eeep! One of those products that you use and just forget about because it’s not very interesting, but it’s definitely an essential. Especially for me, as I have really discoloured, veiny eyelids.
ImageNext up is a shampoo/conditioner combo. I’ve not really spoken about this on here before, but I suffer from something called psoriasis, which is a stress condition that can cause the areas of skin to flake. It’s hereditary, my Mum has it too, but I she has it nearer her neck and I get it on the top of my head. Not great when you have dark hair! Most shampoos just irritate it more, and when my Mum picked the Head and Shoulders Smooth and Silky range up earlier in the year and passed them to me, I thought that they would do the same thing. They have, in fact, really soothed my scalp, and they keep my hair nice and clean + they smell really lovely. I’ve just picked up the citrus ones, and hopefully they also work. I ❤ citrus scented body and hair products.
ImageSo there are my May Beauty Favourites! I would LOVE to know what you’ve been loving for the month of May, so leave me a comment telling me if you’d like! 🙂

Review: New Revlon Lip Butters

3 Jun

Hello lovelies!

I have a day off of work today, and let me tell you, I need it! 6 days in a row, during half term, at a theme park just about killed me. Today I’ve got a little review of two of the new Revlon Lip Butters, Wild Watermelon and Juicy Papaya!

ImageI picked these up a little while ago, and at first, I was sure that the only one that would interest me would be Juicy Papaya. But when I ran across the whole new collection online, I took the plunge and bought Wild Watermelon as well!
ImageThe formula of the Revlon Lip Butters is kind of a big deal. World-famous, hyped, etc., but in my honest opinion, I think that it varies from shade to shade. I have five now, and they all feel a little different on the lips! These two are good examples of that theory.
Image

Wild Watermelon is very glossy, bright and pigmented. It’s a brilliant example of a sheer bright. It feels moisturising and nourishing, and the colour is so gorgeous! Juicy Papaya is much more matte, I think you can see that in the pictures. It’s very similar to my lips, so is like a ‘my lips but better’ shade. So it’s much more of an ‘everyday’ colour for me. Such a low-maintenance lip. It fades very well too. I’ve found that the Juicy Papaya LB has a slight scent, but nothing too noticeable.

Image

Image

The packaging, like always, is flawless. Beautiful quilting, and stays clean easily. Sometimes I have to give the bullet of the actual product a little wipe to get the product off. The casing doesn’t scratch though.

I love these ALMOST as much as I love the Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks, which are a little more sticky (<3) and smell like marshmallows. A solid 4/5 from me!

Image

You can buy Revlon Lip Butters at Superdrug and Boots for £7.99.

For the rest of today, I plan on tidying and packing. I move out in less than two weeks! Cannot believe how quickly this year has gone. Until then, I’ll be working hard. I’m actually banning myself from buying any make-up until August, because I keep ‘popping into town’ and accidentally spending £40. Bought a few more bits today, so look out for a collective haul!

I would love to know your favourite Revlon Lip Butter shade. I love Candy Apple the best I think. My go-to red!

Lust Haves – Summer 2013

21 May
Lust Haves- Summer 2013
Hello lovelies!

I’m planning on a little shopping trip relatively soon, and have been lusting over a few items for a while. Summer’s on its way (I refuse to believe that it isn’t, UK!) and so everyon’es prepping themselves and their skin for long, hazy days in the sun and warm evenings with nothing on the agenda but relaxing!

1. YSL’s Touche Eclat Foundation
If you’ve read my blog before, you might have seen that I posted about the YSL’s counterpart foundation to their best-selling product of all time, the Touche Eclat concealer/eye-brightener. I’m actually still going through my diddy sample, which makes me very optimistic for the full size of the foundation! The Touche Eclat Foundation comes in 16 shades and is priced at £29 on the Boots website.

2. MAC’s 217 Blending Brush
As a beauty blogger and a cosmetics addict, I haven’t avoided the hype about this brush. Everyone and their mothers seem to own them, but I think I resent paying that much for one brush. I am usually perfectly content with my Real Techniques brushes, but having recently purchased their eye set, there isn’t really a brush that can give me what I want in terms of blending. I have a great No.7 brush that I bought about a year ago for £2.50 with a famous £5 off voucher in Boots, but I use it too much and want to see whether it is comparable to the famous 217. The 217 blending brush is priced at £17 in MAC stores and on their website.

3.  Clinique’s Chubby Sticks
I just want all of them! I’m in love with my Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks (mentioned here), and again want to see what the hype is about. I think a sheer, easy sweep of colour that’s moisturising is great for summer and is also really low-maintenance. No fuss! You can buy Clinique’s Chubby Sticks for £16 at Clinique counters, their website or the Boots website.

4. Soap and Glory’s Glow Job Daily Radiance Moisture Lotion
Oh, Soap and Glory. You come up with the BEST names for your products. A bit cheeky, and the products are always incredible. I have not taken a trip into the wonderful facial skincare selection from S&G yet, but I have some make-up items, and would recommend them all. I figured that this lotion would be a good place to start, as it gives an all over glow to the face and is also beneficial for the skin. You can buy Glow Job for £9 on the Boots website or in Boots stores.

5. Estee Lauder’s DoubleWear Light Foundation
Light coverage? Check. Long-wearing? Check. Good skin tone match? Check.
I’ve heard so many good things about the original DoubleWear Foundation, but I’ve also heard that it’s heavy coverage. I’m just not a fan of that kind of foundation, even though I’m sure it’s perfect for some. I mix most of my foundations with moisturisers anyway, so it would be a waste to buy a foundation I wouldn’t like. The Light version seems to tick all the boxes for me. However, I really can’t justify buying TWO high-end foundations that are essentially very similar when I just bought the Nearly Naked from Revlon and the True Match from Rimmel. I’ve got tons to be getting on with! I think it will have to be a spur of the moment decision once I’m in the shop! You can buy Estee Lauder’s DoubleWear Light Foundation for £27.50 from Estee Lauder counters or on the Boots website.

What’s on your Lust-Haves list? And what do you think will make it onto your ‘Must-Haves list’? Any recommendations for me? I would love to know some of your favourite make-up products or techniques for the warmer months!

Summer Make-Up and Beauty Products Haul! Revlon, The Body Shop, Rimmel, Benefit and Elie Saab

14 May
Hello lovelies!

I got my student loan through a couple of weeks ago, and decided to treat myself to a couple of products I’d been lusting over.

The first thing I did was buy a perfume. I’ve been wanting Elie Saab’s Eau de Parfum for a long time now, about 5 or 6 months. It’s just so damn expensive, and I’ve never really been a perfume girl. Having just got a new job where I’d be working long hours, I wanted a scent to stay with me for the day. This totally does. I got the travel set, so it’s 3 x 20ml bottles that can be placed inside a gold metal travalo-esque spray bottle. I actually got this because you got more product for your money compared to the regular bottle, and I’m always on the go, so a travel set suits me better. I also got a free Elie Saab perfume bag and body lotion with purchase! YAY! I do love a freebie.

Image

Because I bought that off of the Boots website, I got some points, which bumped my points total up to a mental 1900, worth £19. I took advantage of the 3 for 2 Revlon offer, and bought 2 of the new lip butters, Juicy Papaya and Wild Watermelon, and a cream blush in Coral Reef. I got all of this with my Boots points, and a free sample of a Seventeen foundation too. Result!

ImageImage

Next up, I placed an order at The Body Shop. I can’t even remember when I last bought something from The Body Shop, I always just steal the stuff I like from my Mum! Haha! We’ve all done it! I picked up a Choccie Body Butter (I already own the Mango and the Strawberry and I lurrrvvvee them), a Lemon Lip Butter (smells like Lemon Drizzle cake), a Pomegranate Lip Balm which gives a bit of colour, and a lip balm trio of the Born Lippy brand. I love those Born Lippys, and doesn’t it seem like they’ve been around forever? I also picked up a face scrub, but I think I’ll be doing a more in depth review of that soooon 🙂

ImageImageImageImage

(Just a quick sidenote, I gave a lip balm to my lovely friend Kent, but there were three, and don’t you just love the little novelty tins things come in? I’ve put all my little Benefit samples in this one!)

Next up I bought a couple of magazines, Elle and Instyle. Elle came with a free deluxe sample of Benefit’s ‘They’re Real’ Mascara, which I own the full size of, but they claimed that the mini was worth £9.50! :O And Instyle came with a gorgeous Nails Inc. nail polish, and I got the shade ‘You’re a Peach’, which I looove. Perfect for spring/summer!

ImageImage
Last but certainly not least, I picked up a few things from Rimmel whilst food shopping (bizarre or opportunistic?) the other day at Tesco. It was 3 for 2, the Apocalips were on sale and it had been a long day. I bagged the Apocalips Lip Lacquer in ‘Stellar’, the Powder Blush in ‘Bronze’ and the Match Perfection Foundation in ‘Ivory’. I would usually have gone for the lightest shade, but Rimmel’s Wake Me Up foundation is a perfect match for me in Ivory. Actually, when I compared them at home, the Match Perfection seemed a little lighter!
ImageImageImageOkay, so there’s my haul! I tried reaaallly hard with the photos in this post, so if you liked them (and didn’t think there were too many), then I would love it if you ‘liked’ this post!

Today and tomorrow are my first days off from work in a while. I got a little touch of tonsillitis a couple of days ago, and drugged myself up silly with strepsils and flu tablets and antibiotics and I think I might be on the road to recovery! I have an exam tomorrow as well, so I might need to do a bit of revision…..but Game of Thrones Season 3 is calling my name…!

Hope you are all having a beautiful day or night,
Christie xoxo

P.S. If you need to blame anyone for any of these purchases, blame Estée and her darn YouTube videos! Every time she says crackalackin’ I have to buy something. It’s a rule I made up. 😉 Check out her videos for a unique and HONEST view of beauty products, and also, she’s beautiful!

Oh dear! I finally caved. YSL: Volupté Sheer Candy.

3 Mar

Oh dear! I finally caved. YSL: Volupté Sheer Candy.

For about 6 months now, more and more beauty vloggers and bloggers have been raving about the YSL lipsticks and lipbalms. from what I can gather, they’ve been about for a while, but because they’re so damn expensive, not many people own one.

I am a student, which means the cash usually goes on food/alcohol so I don’t have the pennies to go splurging on high-end beauties. But my Nan gave me some money, and I just couldn’t resist.

The colour I got is Number 2, Papaye Gelée (Dewy Papaya apparently, even a budding French degree didn’t help me there!) and just to clarify, it’s the sheer balm in a silver tube. It’s a beautiful light coral colour, and when applied to my lips it gives a ‘my lips but better’ colour.

The obvious thing here is that it’s not going to give a lot of colour, it’s a balm, but that it does give some! It’s not a Revlon Lip Butter kind of product, and not a lipgloss but definitely more of a balm. It feels VERY buttery and silky on my lips, and smells divine, all fruity and lovely. One obvious drawback is the hefty price-tag but it’s up to you to decide whether it’s worth it. With the amount of admiring looks I’ve had already plus the surprising lasting power, it’s definitely worth it in my book.

If you had the money to just buy ONE high-end product you’ve been lusting after, what would it be? Not that you need to tempt me more, but I’d love to know your lust-haves!

Price: £23.50 – £24.50
Where to buy: YSL beauty counters, Selfridges, feelunique.com.
Product: 3.5/5
Packaging: 5/5
Verdict: 4/5

TotallyChristie’s Top Tips: Number 1

13 Apr

If you’re anything like me, then you’ll find it a pain to have to reapply lip balms during the day to keep your lips soft. What’s the point when you’ll just have to reapply them again..and again…and again all day. So, my top tip instead can give you soft lips without the hassle. Instead of reapplying during the day, condition and treat your lips just before you sleep! Just after I brush my teeth, I whack out my lip exfoliator from Lush, either Sweet Lips or Bubblegum, and I scrub my lips with it. The great thing about the scrubs is that they are edible- so no mess! 😉 Then, I use a heavy lip balm. My favourites are the Carmex Balms or my Body Shop Cocoa Butter number, but any balm will do! Apply lots- this should last you all night! Then, go to sleep and wake up feeling the benefits! If your poor lips are feeling parched, pop on the scrub, leave it (tempting I know!) and then layer the balm on top and rub your lips together.

Don’t forget to smile, with those lips you’re bound to catch someone’s eye! 🙂
