February

1 Mar

Hi lovelies!

February favourites time. I’m so glad February is over. It’s always my worst month, filled with deadlines and money woes. This is the last year though, so hoorah! (fingers crossed I pass Uni, and it is the last year) Let’s get cracking!

Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer – £7.99

This is a pretty new favourite for me, but it’s the best concealer I’ve tried in a long time. As someone who has pretty desert-y skin, with super parched under eyes, most concealers I’ve tried have just not lived up to the hype. Including the Nars Radiant Creamy and the Urban Decay Naked Skin. Major sad face. This feels light as air, provides dreamy coverage and doesn’t cling to any dry patches. That’s all I want! *snaps for Bourjois*

M.A.C Eyeshadows in ‘Omega’ (left) and ‘Patina’ (right)- £13 each

From ‘don’t believe the hype’ products, to ‘totally believe the hype products’. These shadows combine to make such the perfect barely there smokey eye look on my pale, pale skin. ‘Patina’ has long-been my favourite, and ‘Omega’ is such a perfect crease colour (as well as a universal brow powder, if you’re searching), and together they are perf. This combo is pretty much foolproof, not even ‘eye’ (haha, get it) can mess it up.

Also, these shadows are pretty much appropriate for any occasion. They’re perfect day to night-ers, I always just grab the duo and a Sigma E40 and buff on a bit more ‘Patina’ for night. And the pigmented, but non-creamy texture means they’re super long lasting.

Dior’s Glowing Gardens Illuminating Powder in ’01’ – £40

I hunted high and low for this baby. Like, seriously high and low. I had three other people on the lookout for it during my no-buy. And it’s still the only beauty product I’ve bought all year. I think I can definitively say that it’s my favourite highlighter of all time. Yep, I went there. I have so many highlighters, and this one is the cream of the crop. For all you fair-skinned girls out there, you just can’t go wrong with ’01’, and for everyone else, there’s ’02’. It’s silky, the perfect balance of glisten and glow, and it looks perfect. Just perfect. Look!

*angels singing from heaven*

Too Faced Melted Lipstick in ‘Fig’ – £19

Now. When I first got this just before Christmas, I almost hated it. I swatched it and went ‘Noooooooooo!’ I remember this clearly, because about a week afterwards, I went to London for a Twitter Q+A with Tina Fey. Yeah, nbd guys, just, you know, one of my heroes. And I picked this up at 6am, and thought, ‘I’ll give it a go again, I suppose.’ Thank goodness I did, because this baby is the perfect winter pink for me. It’s not dark enough to be berry, and not light enough to be nude, it’s that perfect balance, and I just adore the way it looks.

A very poor photo from Snapchat, but omg look how pretty right?!

Zoeva brushes – prices vary

I’m so in love with my Zoeva brushes that I couldn’t pick just one as a favourite. I got these in the glorious 5 days between Christmas and New Year and oh my. The best value for money brush ever, the best presentation ever. Fab fab brushes, and if you’re a little wary of splashing the cash on a set (these are the Rose Gold Vol.1 Eye Set), please just pick up one, fall in love, and thank me later.

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

I thought this was totally kick-ass. I described it as The Hunger Games meets The Selection, which will possibly only mean something if you’re into YA. The author has just released book 2, Glass Sword, and has said there’ll be two more books. Very exciting!

Room-2015-Movie-Poster

Room

I saw this at 9.30am, alone, on a Thursday morning, in an empty cinema. It’s one of those films you leave the cinema thinking about, and spend the next week turning it over through your mind, churning through thoughts and feelings about the subject matter. I’m so so thrilled that Brie Larson won Best Actress at the Oscars, she was phenomenal, and Jacob Tremblay, who you’ve probably seen owning awards season and charming the socks off everyone he meets, has one of those faces that the camera just adores. Can’t wait to see what he does next. I will think about this film for a long time.

Carly-Rae-Jepsen-Emotion

E.Mo.Tion – Carly Rae Jepsen

Yes, you heard right. Carly Rae Jepsen. This album is total bubblegum, and it knows it. Jepsen is no Taylor Swift, trying to sneak in little thoughtful ballads, or wanting to play with the media through lyrics. She just wants everyone dancing. I love this album, and February thanked me for discovering it. But beware, it’s pop. I mean, sickly sweet pop, so proceed at you own risk.

And that’s it for this month, lovelies. I can’t wait to get March out of the way. Once I hit the end of the month, I will have finished every single lecture of my Uni course. WAHOO.

Have a great day, or evening, wherever you are.

January

10 Feb

Hi lovelies!

January passed in the blink of an eye. That’s what everyone always says, right?

I feel like January lasted approximately nine years. But I do have some faves to share with you!

Too Faced Shadow Insurance -£17

Now, I don’t think this is my Holy Grail Eyeshadow Primer. I’m not floored by it. But it’s tacky enough that my shadows stay in place, it works well with a shimmer, and my crease has never looked better with this stuff on the lid. The reason it’s a fave is because when you mix it with concealer, it becomes the perfect budge-free base. Props to Too Faced for making just a good team player product. Plus, this is the mini size that you get free with most palettes or Too Faced value sets, and it’s lasted me maybe four months so far!

Nars ‘Anita’ Audacious Lipstick – £24

Oh, Anita. This is my one and only Audacious lipstick, and let me tell you, they are worth the hype. I’ve never tried anything as rich and creamy as this. I’ve been loving dabbing this all over the lip and then working it in with my finger, like a stain. It’s also one of those rare lippies that look better the longer you wear them. The closest formula to these is probably the Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipsticks, but they’ve got a bit more slip, and slightly less staying power. It’s actually baffling how Nars managed this formula. Full colour with one swipe, you can’t go wrong picking up your signature shade. Just don’t go falling in love with the whole line, ok? At £24 a pop, you’ll be using the little money flying away emoji all day, every day.

IMG_4317

Caudalie Beauty Elixir – £11.50 for 30ml

I have an unhealthy obsession that I’m trying to deny with this stuff. Which is why I keep getting the travel size. *breathes heavily* During my January no-buy (yes, you heard that right, and we’ll get to that later), this was the only product I considered caving for. It’s just fab. It’s so refreshing, and it pulls a look together when your face is looking a bit powdery. My problem is that I use it after primer, then foundation, then powder, and you really only need it once. Sigh. *heads to spacenk.com*

Yves Saint Laurent Face Palette Collector – Gypsy Opale – £42.50

You know, I’m imaging the scenario in the YSL product development offices.

‘Ok, UK pricing. I’m thinking around the £40 mark. What do you guys think?’

‘Oh, no no. It just must be £42.50. The 50p is the most important part. It makes it feel luxe.’

I wish that brands wouldn’t do that, especially when it comes to luxury brands. But I may just be able to forgive YSL. After not being able to get my hands on the Dior Glowing Gardens highlighting powder (I searched high and low, cried etc.), I can’t compare the two. But this is such a gorgeous finishing powder, especially for lighter skin. As someone who’s really fair, no seriously, even Becca’s Opal is too dark for me, I sometimes can struggle to find a powder that’s flattering for my skin-tone, especially as I’m really dry. This is such a great way to finish a paler face.

The 100 Season 3- E4/The CW

THE 100 IS BACK! IT’S BACK! -Me to anyone that will listen

After a stellar first two seasons, The 100 is back for S3 on The CW. It’s back in the UK on Feb 17, but my hopes are that Raven continues to be badass, Clarke and Bellamy realise they’re meant to be, and for Jaha to die. Watch the show, you’ll understand! It’s really clever, brutal, violent and actually has it’s characters go through crappy situations and come out the other side (or not, soz dead characters) having been affected by the stuff that’s happened. For example, in one episode a character jumped off of a mountain ledge. In the next two or three episodes, her face was all scratched.  Consequence and continuity! Hoorah.

Pop Culture Happy Hour – Wherever you get your podcasts

I’ve become a real podcast person, and this is by far my favourite. The PCHH team are always on hand with commentary and thoughts on the latest pop culture phenomenon, the pop culture that’s made a difference in their lives, or (throwback) a bit of German art-song. ‘Tony Awards and Shared Songs’ is downright fantastic, and ‘Empire and Public Radio Voices’ features two of my favourite voices that guest on the show. Give it a listen!

That’s it for the month. As I mentioned, I was on a no-buy for the whole of January. No beauty products for myself, whatsoever. And I’m still going! I’ve used up two foundations, a powder, a bunch of sample skincare products and a whole lipstick. An entire lipstick you guys! That’s a big deal!

Hope February is being good to you.

Have a great day/evening, wherever you are!

Hello August

6 Aug

Hi lovelies!

So. My summer job is complete.

*large sigh of relief*

For the past six weeks or so, I’ve been working at a summer language camp in Hertfordshire as an Activity Leader. I’ve never been so thankful for a job to be over and done with, let me tell you.

It’s been a rough few months for my family, but I’m determined to come out the other end of this bizarre first half of the year with a smile on my face and a determination to finish university and find a job that I love. Plus it’s my birthday month! Which means lots of friends and family round for our annual barbecue at the end of the month! 🙂

A few things that I’ve been loving lately…

The Line Up
These girls are phe-nom-e-nal. I’m blown away by the amount of talent they have, and the amount of effort they put into each one of their YouTube videos is astounding. I’m not a fan of style blogs, or even style videos really, but it’s a testament to them how eager I am to watch every new video when it’s released.

UnReal
If you’re a TV fan like I am, you’ll have heard about the summer show that has stolen the spotlight from True Detective and OINTB. UnReal is a scripted drama about the behind-the-scenes action of a reality dating show named ‘Everlasting’ – think ‘The Bachelor’ meets ‘The Newsroom’. Plus, the walk and talks are pretty spectacular and the eye candy ain’t bad either.

Pop Culture Happy Hour and Talking TV
Last year, when I came out of my binge-stupor after finishing the last episode of ‘Serial’ (true crime podcast about the murder of a young girl in 1999)  I was searching for something a little lighter. These two podcasts are the best of the bunch, IMO. Pop Culture Happy Hour is a round-table style podcast that revolves around what the participants are watching, reading and listening to. I immediately fell head over heels for the regulars on this – in particular Linda Holmes, Stephen Thompson and Glen Weldon, who have been at the table since the first taping over five years ago. Head back through their feed and you’ll definitely find an episode that is in your wheelhouse. And speaking of wheelhouses, mine is pretty much Talking TV with Ryan and Ryan. These guys know what they are talking about. Full stop. It’s structured simply as a conversation between Ryan McGee and Maureen ‘Mo’ Ryan (HuffPo), two critics who really know their stuff. Download a few episodes (and bear with the ‘down a well’ quality of Mo’s voice sometimes) and get ready to be televisionlightened.

So that’s it from me this time guys. Hopefully see you soon with a beauty post. (I’ve been shamelessly buying something every time I feel down in the dumps or need a pick-me-up.)

Hope you have an amazing day or night, wherever you are!

October Favourites + Swatches

10 Nov

Hello lovelies!

Today I’ve got a bunch of products to show you, plus swatches and a little bit of a daring FOTD for me. Stay tuned for that…

DSCN2288

DSCN2289

Sleek Blush By 3 Palette in ‘Lace’ – £10

I finally put this palette to use – I love the shade ‘Chantilly’, a gorgeous matte hot coral. Wow wow wow. You have to be careful with these blushes, as they’re so pigmented. This blush palette is going to last me forever. It’s great value and quality. Can’t wait to check out the other Blush By 3 palettes.

DSCN2293

Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot Mattifying Powder – £12
This stuff has been so so good to me (you can probably tell from the major pan that you’re seeing) – but during October it just shone as a holy grail product. Living without this just doesn’t seem plausible to me, could I possibly go on if I lost it?! Who can tell? It’s totally translucent, works on loadsa skin colours and types, and is affordable. Run to Boots. Run.

DSCN2303

BareMinerals The Next Big Thing Palette (LE) – £29

I first spotted this on Temptalia around six months ago, promptly fell in love and then discovered it was limited edition! I searched high and low for it, including on the Bare Minerals website, and than randomly stumbled across it in the Debenhams sale. I’m pretty sure it was 13.50, which is incredible for a palette of this quality, and the brand’s reputable image only helped me to snap it up. The colours are never usually what I would wear on my lids, but that coral drew me in and ever since, I’ve been falling further and further in love. The gold-y shades are beautifully pigmented, the coral is so so unique on the eyes, and the blackened plum makes a gorgeous liner. I must have used shades from this palette at least ten times during October, and for me, that’s pretty good.

DSCN2306Benefit Posietint – full size £24.50

Just a long-time fave of mine, it’s on my Christmas list and this little deluxe sample has lasted me forever. I love it on my lips the most, but it gives a gorgeous flush to the cheeks too.

DSCN2309ModelCo More Brows in Medium/Dark – £10

This is an exact dupe for Gimme Brow except that it doesn’t get all gross after a couple of uses. It distributes product nice and evenly along the brow and is inexpensive in comparison to the Benefit version. Big ole thumbs up from me!

DSCN2311Estee Lauder Double Wear Brush On Glow BB Highlighter – £23.50
I purchased this on a bit of a whim, and I’m so glad I did. Not only is it a great mutipurpose concealer/corrector/highlighter, but I’ve honestly used it since April EVERY single day (minus lazy days) and it’s still going strong. This is the never-ending product. It’s glowy, long lasting and although it’s a little pricy, I think it’s well worth it.

DSCN2314

Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 01 – full size £18
The smell of this product is incredible, I just can’t get over it. I heard the hype, I listened, I put it off. Then I saw a little value set in Sephora with a mini for a minimal price. I jumped at the chance. These are so so comfortable, this colour is flattering and the line is well worth the hype.

DSCN2321DSCN2336Aaaaand that’s all of that stuff on my face. With a coral and icy gold eye. Eeeeep.

DSCN2342

So those were my October favourites. Is there anything you’ve been loving lately? Please let me know in the comments and fuel my addiction.

Have a great day/evening, wherever you are!

May Beauty Favourites

3 Jun

Hello lovelies! Got some favourites to share with you.
ImageFirst up is The Righteous Butter from Soap & Glory. I need all the moisture I can get now that I work outside. This smells divine and the scent lingers, does the job and makes me feel less dry.
ImageThen I have something that I haven’t shared with you yet, my Estee Lauder Pure Colour Lipstick in ‘Tiramisu Shimmer’. It was a freebie with a recent purchase, but it’s absolutely gorgeous and is a great colour to wear when you have a natural makeup work code. It feels lovely on your lips, and I think I’ve worn it every day since I got it.
ImageImageImage

I am a serious make-up thief when it comes to my sister’s collection. She never uses her make-up, and I think that’s a waste. So I whipped this one out of her make-up bag. She hasn’t noticed yet, and I’ll buy her a new one when she does! It’s the Rimmel Glam Eyes Trio in Orion. I use the brown mixed with the white for a brow powder. I don’t dye my brows, but I do dye my hair. It’s difficult to pull off lighter brows with darker hair, although the opposite combination seems to be very popular. This powder gives the perfect amount of colour and lasts. It’s a great eyeshadow palette too.

ImageImageAs I mentioned, I work outside, and I found in the first few weeks that my lips were feeling SO dry. I started off with some Carmex, but it felt a little slick for constant talking. This Nivea Lip Balm has been a big hit in my books. I also have the blue classic version, and a pearly shine one, but this gives me a little colour also, which I like. It’s the Nivea Soft Rose Lip Balm.

ImageI’ve also been loving my Real Techniques Blush Brush this month, as it has about three hundred different uses and cleans so easily. I’ve used it for bronzer, blush, face powder and highlight all in one week! Crazy!
ImageImageBeen loving scented things for summer, and so I whacked out my Pink Grapefruit Neutrogena Moisturiser once I ran out of the unscented version. It smells lovely in the mornings and is sinks in nice and quickly. A big hit on the days where you’re in a rush!
ImageThen I have Stay Don’t Stray, which is a concealer/primer from Benefit. Benefit’s my favourite high-end make-up brand, and I literally love this so much that I might have to splash out on the full size. £23.50 eeep! One of those products that you use and just forget about because it’s not very interesting, but it’s definitely an essential. Especially for me, as I have really discoloured, veiny eyelids.
ImageNext up is a shampoo/conditioner combo. I’ve not really spoken about this on here before, but I suffer from something called psoriasis, which is a stress condition that can cause the areas of skin to flake. It’s hereditary, my Mum has it too, but I she has it nearer her neck and I get it on the top of my head. Not great when you have dark hair! Most shampoos just irritate it more, and when my Mum picked the Head and Shoulders Smooth and Silky range up earlier in the year and passed them to me, I thought that they would do the same thing. They have, in fact, really soothed my scalp, and they keep my hair nice and clean + they smell really lovely. I’ve just picked up the citrus ones, and hopefully they also work. I ❤ citrus scented body and hair products.
ImageSo there are my May Beauty Favourites! I would LOVE to know what you’ve been loving for the month of May, so leave me a comment telling me if you’d like! 🙂

Music Favourites: Summer Soundtrack

22 Aug

Hello everyone!

I wanted to share a few music favourites, because they’ve been adding up and I love hearing about great songs from other blogs! I have narrowed it down though, so 5 songs/artists/albums it is! I’ve linked iTunes (US and UK) and Amazon UK for the first favourite, but it’s easy to navigate to each artist from there. 🙂

1. Maroon 5’s new album ‘Overexposed’
This album’s been on repeat since July! The newest release from Maroon 5, it includes Payphone which is such a catchy song, and is generally very poppy, with smooth falsetto vocals from Adam Levine. Some of my favourites are Beautiful Goodbye, One More Night, and  Doin’ Dirt.
You can buy Overexposed on iTunes (US) and iTunes (UK) as well as Amazon (UK).

2. Oh Land
Oh Land is a singer from Denmark that I first saw as a support act on Katy Perry’s California Dreams Tour in November, and she got a bit of a negative reception from the crowd. The show had started later than planned, people were impatient and she definitely doesn’t have the ‘Katy Perry’ sound, but I thought she was really good. I then heard her song ‘White Nights‘ on Girls, an HBO TV show, and her music has been featured on ‘Teen Wolf’, the MTV sci-fi show too. My favourite songs from Oh Land are Helicopter, Son of A Gun, and Wolf & I. She’s a bit electro-pop, with a folksy feel. That sounds so weird, but she’s excellent, just maybe not everyone’s cup of tea. The fact that her music’s been on an eclectic comedy and a popular cult MTV show about wolves says that it’s pretty diverse though, right? I actually really like the Jacob Plant Remix of Sun of A Gun, which I haven’t been able to find for download, but it is here on youtube. It’s Dubstep, be warned. 🙂
You can buy Oh Land’s music on iTunes in the US and UK.

3. Ed Sheeran’s album ‘+’
A favourite of mine since ‘A-Team’, Ed Sheeran’s dulcet tones are always so amazing to me. I love The City, and my friend May swears that Small Bump is her favourite song of all time. 😀
You can buy Ed’s music on iTunes US and UK and Amazon.

4. Taylor Swift’s new single ‘We Are Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together’
A huge Swifty fan, I learnt the words to this within an hour, and it was on my iPhone and iPod within 10 minutes of release in the UK.
SO CATCHY. I’ve recently been loving ‘Both Of Us‘ too, a collaboration between B.o.B and Taylor, but my top Taylor tune is definitely TANEEGBT. Woah. Mouthful. 😀
You can buy Taylor’s new song on both iTunes US and UK, and on the Google play store.

5. The Click Five’s song ‘Just The Girl’
Blast from the past….apparently. Just discovered this song from Cimorelli (an amazing a capella group made up of 6 sisters from Sacramento, the harmonies are stunning, check out their youtube here), who did a bit of improv harmonising at the end of one of their videos. I then  went and checked out the song, and it’s SO GOOD.  Typical cheesy pop, but definitely pop you won’t mind singing along to at the top of your voice. Just The Girl is my favourite and is definitely no exception to the top of your voice rule!
You can buy my favourite The Click Five song from iTunes US and UK. 🙂

After all those links I’m a little relieved now! 😀
Any songs that have been the soundtrack to your summer?

Don’t forget to smile,

Christie xoxo 🙂

The busiest few weeks!

18 Mar

I am well aware that I have not blogged in FOREVER. However, some developments in my life have occurred. Well, just two really, but still.

1. I got an iPhone.
2. I passed my driving test.

Therefore, I have been addicted to my iPhone, and have been driving my little car around, and I just have completely neglected the internet in order to focus on my life! Weird, I know! BUT… I have lots of ideas for blogs, because my delayed blogging has inspired more ideas apparently!

In the meantime, I do have a few ‘favourites’ to share with you for this month.

Favourite Beauty Product:
Okay, it has to be one of my new purchases (reviews soon!)
Either Avon’s Color Trend Kiss ‘n’ Go Lipstick in Winter Wine or Avon’s Arabian Glow Bronzing Pearls. Both of these products were inexpensive, and I adore them already, after only a few weeks of using them!

Favourite Book: THE HUNGER GAMES! I read this over the summer after my Mum bought it for me, but recently, all of my friends have borrowed the books and have been frantically reading before the film comes out. Suzanne Collins has come up with a story to stand the test of time. It’s truly excellent reading, and I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Favourite Hair Product:
It has to be the Percy and Reed of London Finishing Polish. I actually got this as my free gift with this month’s Glamour magazine (if you don’t read it, then check it out, it’s only £2 and you get a gorgeous gift and usually some free samples with some beautiful photo shoots and style ideas). I have very frizzy, curly/wavy hair that dries out quickly, and I’m always looking for something that means I can wear my hair naturally and have it look reasonable, as I really don’t have the time in the mornings to curl or straighten my hair! This did the trick, and is a nice product to use. It is scented, but that doesn’t bother me, as my shampoo and conditioner are strong-smelling and overpower it easily.

Favourite Blog: Okay, so my friend Katie (kates24) has a blog on wordpress, she write beautifully and is incredibly articulate. For anyone who fancies a peek at her outlook on life, check out her blog. She’s so funny, and makes A LOT of sense  A LOT of the time.
http://www.kates24.wordpress.com

Favourite Film: Very very recently, I watched The Notebook again with my friend Jodie. It breaks my heart every single time I see it, and I fall in love with it over and over again! Despite my recommendations, my sister refuses to stop watching High School Musical 2. On the last count I did, she’d watched it 7 times within 4 days. Crazy girl.

Favourite Song: I’ve been loving Florence + The Machine’s song Landscape this month. Take a listen here,(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9DtY0ktT1U) one of my fellow Tumblr Dair shippers made a playlist and this has to be my favourite song of theirs.

Favourite Youtube Channel: It has to be Rachel (http://www.youtube.com/user/icallitambrosia) or Meghan (http://www.youtube.com/user/meghanrosette). I don’t know about you, but I detest watching boring beauty videos on YouTube, so these girls are amazing for me. Despite both of them being absolutely hilarious, they do actually know what they are talking about. If you love hauls, check out Meghan, because I don’t know how she does it, but she shops A LOT, and if tutorials and rants (teehee) are more your thing, then Rachel’s channel is the place for you.

Favourite Artist: Definitely been loving The Script this month. If you don’t know who they are, check out my favourite songs, This= Love (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gxjfjj8r98) and The End Where I Begin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dflJL5Zb4ao) although, all of their songs are beautiful.

Human Favourite: It has to be my sister! She’s around four years younger than me, and is nearly fourteen, so I feel very old and the age gap is substantial, so we fight a lot. However, this month she has been the sweetest angelic sister ever! Is there some sort of award that I can give her? 😀

Favourite Food: The new Cadbury Dairy Milk Bubbly is to die for! At the moment in the UK, the bars have been on mass offer for £1 pretty much everywhere, and they’ve quickly become my favourite treat!

Favourite App: Either Instagram or Temple Run. Temple Run is incredibly addictive and Instagram makes me feel like my photos are cool and…well, cool. If you like, you can follow me at christieannturner. 🙂

Favourite Random: My car! 😀 I have a little Corsa, and it’s silver and adorable. It’s my baby, and I haven’t been able to get enough of it!

Favourite Photo: Recently, my Dad dug out a box of baby photos of me, and here’s my favourite from the bunch.

I hope you all have a lovely relaxing Sunday evening, and remember, don’t forget to smile! 🙂
