Review: Tarte’s ‘Be Your Own Tarteist’ Palette + Swatches

5 Sep

Hi lovelies!

After picking up the Poppy Picnic palette from Tarte a few weeks ago, I found myself stalking the QVC UK website in order to see whether any new Tarte goodies were coming their way, when I saw the Miracles from the Amazon giftset pop up. The set includes a few other products (watch out for reviews if I love them or hate them), but what really caught my eye was the ‘Be Your Own Tarteist’ palette.

IMG_3876It has the exact same layout as the Poppy Picnic palette, but isn’t quite all matte. It does have four matte shadows, and the blush is totally matte, but there are two shimmery shadows included.

IMG_3877

The shades are t-b,l-r, Pink Beyond, Taupe For The Best, Dreams Plum True, Talented (blush), Out Of This Pearl, Thistle Be The Day and Paint The Brown.

Taupe For The Best and Out Of This Pearl both have a shimmery finish, but not glittery or frosty at all. They are firm to touch but still swatch beautifully in one swipe. I think the one weak point of this palette is the plum shade Dreams Plum True. The texture of the shadow is drier than the others, and Tarte’s mattes are really lovely, so it’s quite noticeable. I can definitely make it work as a liner, but I think it might be a little difficult to blend.

IMG_3881

Once again, sucked in by the packaging, impressed by the actual product! Win win, right?
You can pick up this palette as part of a set on QVC UK for £34 (£38 inc. postage).

Hope you’re all having a wonderful day/night, wherever you are!

YSL Palette City Drive in ‘Classy’

17 Jan

Hello lovelies!

Quick post on a product I picked up recently from Sephora here in France. The YSL Palette City Drive is a gorgeous quad of neutral shadows that can be used wet or dry, and was on sale in Sephora. It was originally €54 but was reduced to €27. I am not one to be able to resist a bargain!

image

I used the palette to create a smoky bronze look, perfect for going out for dinner, a bit too much for me during the day. I paired the eye with a peachy pink lip, using Bite Beauty’s Glacé High Pigment Pencil and a little bit of the bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lip Gloss in Heartbreaker.

image

image

Used dry, the lighter shade took a bit of building, but apart from that every colour was nicely pigmented and came across richly on the eye whilst blending nicely.

Unfortunately this product was a limited edition, but if I managed to find it, you definitely can! Check out Sephoras, CCOs or ask at your YSL counters whether they have any excess they didn’t sell.

Have a wonderful day!

FOTD: It’s All About Bronze

19 Feb

Hello lovelies!

Thought I’d share an FOTD with you today. I just recently purchased ‘All The Faves’, a bareMinerals kit on ASOS’ big beauty sale (out of stock now boohoo 😦 ). It came with 8 deluxe sample sizes of some of bareMinerals’ most loved products, hence the name. The eyeshadows that came with it literally have blown me away. They’re what’s missing from my ab fab Stila ‘In The Light’ palette. I saw Anna’s post on the new Nars Eyeshadow palette, and was inspired to create a smoky bronze look myself.

Image

Heard some mixed reviews about that Narsissist Palette, anyone tried it out?

The duo is called ‘The Epiphany’ and has one golden bronze shade with shimmer, and another completely matte dark chocolate brown.

Image

I paired it with my Maybelline The Nudes Lipstick in Tantalizing Taupe, which I just got in my February GlossyBox. Can’t believe that was my last one! I still have 2 boxes to redeem with my credits, but still! 😦

Image

I went back to work today after six weeks off while they sort the park out for the new year. New rides and new challenges! Exciting!

Hope you all have a wonderful day/evening, wherever you are!

Huge Collective Haul!

5 Feb

Hello lovelies!
Image

A big haul today. I’ve been shopping too much, but we all know how that goes. My bank account is definitely suffering after all the shopping during December and now January…*cries*
On with the haul!

ImageBenefit’s ‘Hoola’ Bronzer – £23.50

ImageI’ve had a sample size of Hoola forever, I got a big set of Benefit samples last Christmas from my Mum and am still going through a couple of the samples. I figured it was time to upgrade to the full size as I just hit pan on the little sample. It’s a mid toned bronzer, good for lighter skin tones. I can’t wait to be able to use a bronzer brush that’s a good size now! Hoorah!

ImageBenefit’s ‘Stay Don’t Stray’ Primer for Concealers and Eyeshadows – £20.50

ImageThis is the first full-size that I’ve had of this product. I adore it. It’s essentially the only product I can’t live without. Even if I’m not wearing ANY make-up I will gravitate towards wearing this. I’m so excited to have this little beauty in my life. 🙂

ImageBenefit’s ‘They’re Real’ Mascara – £19.50

Image

This mascara is the bee’s knees in the blogging world. It’s also the best-selling mascara in the UK. Even above drugstore ones. Yeah. I’ve had about six minis and one full size of this, but I was just clinging to my first tube for sentimental reasons. That baby was definitely not usable anymore. I had a little funeral for it as I threw it in the bin. But now I have this beautiful shiny new one. Definitely the best mascara I’ve tried for length and definition.

ImageMaybelline’s ‘The Falsies Volum’ Express’ Mascara – £7.99

ImageI love Maybelline’s ‘The Rocket’ Mascara and so I decided to pick up another of their hyped-up mascaras. Have no idea what this one is like yet. It looks like a wet formula, which I don’t usually hate, so fingers crossed.

ImageMaybelline’s ‘Brow Drama’ Brow Mascara – £4.99

ImageThis was kind of an impulse buy. There was a 3 for 2 offer and I jumped at it, but it’s actually pretty god. I’ve used it a couple of times and apart from the awkward wand, it does exactly what I need it to. It gives a little bit of colour and a nice hold. Yay!

ImageMaybelline’s ‘Color Tattoo 24hr’ in ‘Permanent Taupe’ – £4.99

ImageI was so hesitant to pick this up, but grabbed it at the last minute in Boots in a rush. I used it on my housemate last night and it worked really well on her…we shall see. It’s completely matte and quite full coverage on the lids.

Image

The Body Shop’s ‘Honey Bronzing Powder’ – £13.00

ImageCult product alert! This has been in essiebutton’s videos for months, and I’ve been tempted every time she mentions it. The Body Shop actually have a pretty extensive make-up collection, and there are loads of shades of this bronzer. My housemate was drawn in and picked it up too. I love it! It’s more subtle than Hoola, which is great for everyday use.

ImageRevlon’s ‘Lip Butter’ in ‘Red Velvet’ – £7.99

ImageThis is my…6th lip butter! (yes I did just count) I’ve been on the hunt for this shade for a while. It’s more vampy than the others I have, and is exactly what I’ve been looking for for a while! It’s gorgeous 🙂

Image

ImageRevlon’s ‘Matte Balm’ in ‘Standout (Berry)’ and ‘Elusive (Pink)’ – £7.99

Image

ImageRevlon’s ‘Lacquer Balm’ in ‘Vivacious’ -£7.99

ImageI caved to the hype and I am so not sorry! I love all of these little guys. The matte ones are beautiful, and the lacquer one is such a gorgeous colour. I can’t wait until I can wear that lacquer one every day in the summertime. There’s a colour for everyone, honestly. The UK have literally just got these in Boots and Superdrug, so I know that the US have had them for ages, but it’s a brand new ball game for us over here in rainy England.

ImageTop – bottom: Vivacious Lacquer Balm, Standout Matte Balm and Elusive Matte Balm.

ImageBourjois’ Happy Light Matte Primer – £10.99

I got this in early January on a trip to the cinema with my friend Andrew. I actually purchased it with Boots points, and I love it! It’s a bit weird that I picked up the matte primer instead of the luminous one considering I have dry skin, but I’m so glad I did! It’s such a great base. I’m not a fan of the silicone-y primers like The Porefessional from Benefit or the new Baby-Skin Primer from Maybelline, and this one is more of a gel texture.

Image

Revlon’s ‘Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick’ in ‘Mauve it Over’ – £7.49

I’m still at war with myself as to whether I like this or not. It seemed like a perfect purchase at the time but is definitely not very me. I prefer corals or vampy reds, and this is like an orangey-nude my lips but better shade. I’m gonna have to wear this for a bit longer to figure out whether I love it or loathe it.

Image

I was in Boots a few days ago and saw some signs around the Clarins counter that advertised a little bag of samples. I’ve never really inveristigated Clarins as a brand before, but there didn’t seem to be any catch with the samples, just a little skincare consultation. I spoke to the lady (named Catherine in Boots Staines) and she was so lovely. She gave me this little bag of goodies and I can’t wait to test it all out! 🙂

PHEW! That was a long post. I’m mentally exhausted now, and feel more guilty for spending all my hard-earned cash. However, I know that most of these products are gonna end up being real faves of mine. I think that means it’s a win!

Have you picked up anything new from the drugstore lately? There are so many new releases I don’t know where to begin!

Have a lovely day or evening, wherever you are!

October Favourites + Swatches

10 Nov

Hello lovelies!

Today I’ve got a bunch of products to show you, plus swatches and a little bit of a daring FOTD for me. Stay tuned for that…

DSCN2288

DSCN2289

Sleek Blush By 3 Palette in ‘Lace’ – £10

I finally put this palette to use – I love the shade ‘Chantilly’, a gorgeous matte hot coral. Wow wow wow. You have to be careful with these blushes, as they’re so pigmented. This blush palette is going to last me forever. It’s great value and quality. Can’t wait to check out the other Blush By 3 palettes.

DSCN2293

Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot Mattifying Powder – £12
This stuff has been so so good to me (you can probably tell from the major pan that you’re seeing) – but during October it just shone as a holy grail product. Living without this just doesn’t seem plausible to me, could I possibly go on if I lost it?! Who can tell? It’s totally translucent, works on loadsa skin colours and types, and is affordable. Run to Boots. Run.

DSCN2303

BareMinerals The Next Big Thing Palette (LE) – £29

I first spotted this on Temptalia around six months ago, promptly fell in love and then discovered it was limited edition! I searched high and low for it, including on the Bare Minerals website, and than randomly stumbled across it in the Debenhams sale. I’m pretty sure it was 13.50, which is incredible for a palette of this quality, and the brand’s reputable image only helped me to snap it up. The colours are never usually what I would wear on my lids, but that coral drew me in and ever since, I’ve been falling further and further in love. The gold-y shades are beautifully pigmented, the coral is so so unique on the eyes, and the blackened plum makes a gorgeous liner. I must have used shades from this palette at least ten times during October, and for me, that’s pretty good.

DSCN2306Benefit Posietint – full size £24.50

Just a long-time fave of mine, it’s on my Christmas list and this little deluxe sample has lasted me forever. I love it on my lips the most, but it gives a gorgeous flush to the cheeks too.

DSCN2309ModelCo More Brows in Medium/Dark – £10

This is an exact dupe for Gimme Brow except that it doesn’t get all gross after a couple of uses. It distributes product nice and evenly along the brow and is inexpensive in comparison to the Benefit version. Big ole thumbs up from me!

DSCN2311Estee Lauder Double Wear Brush On Glow BB Highlighter – £23.50
I purchased this on a bit of a whim, and I’m so glad I did. Not only is it a great mutipurpose concealer/corrector/highlighter, but I’ve honestly used it since April EVERY single day (minus lazy days) and it’s still going strong. This is the never-ending product. It’s glowy, long lasting and although it’s a little pricy, I think it’s well worth it.

DSCN2314

Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 01 – full size £18
The smell of this product is incredible, I just can’t get over it. I heard the hype, I listened, I put it off. Then I saw a little value set in Sephora with a mini for a minimal price. I jumped at the chance. These are so so comfortable, this colour is flattering and the line is well worth the hype.

DSCN2321DSCN2336Aaaaand that’s all of that stuff on my face. With a coral and icy gold eye. Eeeeep.

DSCN2342

So those were my October favourites. Is there anything you’ve been loving lately? Please let me know in the comments and fuel my addiction.

Have a great day/evening, wherever you are!

20 Sep

Hello lovelies!
Quick eyes of the day post that uses The Body Shop’s Shimmer Cubes Palette 22. I received this little palette as a birthday gift, and MAN am I impressed. the pigmentation is beautiful, the shades are perfect together, and that mint colour! I adore it on the lids, as a liner, on the lower lashline, perfect!

Image

Image

So there you go. I used Clinique High Impact Mascara and my new Bombshell Liquid Liner in Onyx.

Have a beautiful day/evening, wherever you are!

May Beauty Favourites

3 Jun

Hello lovelies! Got some favourites to share with you.
ImageFirst up is The Righteous Butter from Soap & Glory. I need all the moisture I can get now that I work outside. This smells divine and the scent lingers, does the job and makes me feel less dry.
ImageThen I have something that I haven’t shared with you yet, my Estee Lauder Pure Colour Lipstick in ‘Tiramisu Shimmer’. It was a freebie with a recent purchase, but it’s absolutely gorgeous and is a great colour to wear when you have a natural makeup work code. It feels lovely on your lips, and I think I’ve worn it every day since I got it.
ImageImageImage

I am a serious make-up thief when it comes to my sister’s collection. She never uses her make-up, and I think that’s a waste. So I whipped this one out of her make-up bag. She hasn’t noticed yet, and I’ll buy her a new one when she does! It’s the Rimmel Glam Eyes Trio in Orion. I use the brown mixed with the white for a brow powder. I don’t dye my brows, but I do dye my hair. It’s difficult to pull off lighter brows with darker hair, although the opposite combination seems to be very popular. This powder gives the perfect amount of colour and lasts. It’s a great eyeshadow palette too.

ImageImageAs I mentioned, I work outside, and I found in the first few weeks that my lips were feeling SO dry. I started off with some Carmex, but it felt a little slick for constant talking. This Nivea Lip Balm has been a big hit in my books. I also have the blue classic version, and a pearly shine one, but this gives me a little colour also, which I like. It’s the Nivea Soft Rose Lip Balm.

ImageI’ve also been loving my Real Techniques Blush Brush this month, as it has about three hundred different uses and cleans so easily. I’ve used it for bronzer, blush, face powder and highlight all in one week! Crazy!
ImageImageBeen loving scented things for summer, and so I whacked out my Pink Grapefruit Neutrogena Moisturiser once I ran out of the unscented version. It smells lovely in the mornings and is sinks in nice and quickly. A big hit on the days where you’re in a rush!
ImageThen I have Stay Don’t Stray, which is a concealer/primer from Benefit. Benefit’s my favourite high-end make-up brand, and I literally love this so much that I might have to splash out on the full size. £23.50 eeep! One of those products that you use and just forget about because it’s not very interesting, but it’s definitely an essential. Especially for me, as I have really discoloured, veiny eyelids.
ImageNext up is a shampoo/conditioner combo. I’ve not really spoken about this on here before, but I suffer from something called psoriasis, which is a stress condition that can cause the areas of skin to flake. It’s hereditary, my Mum has it too, but I she has it nearer her neck and I get it on the top of my head. Not great when you have dark hair! Most shampoos just irritate it more, and when my Mum picked the Head and Shoulders Smooth and Silky range up earlier in the year and passed them to me, I thought that they would do the same thing. They have, in fact, really soothed my scalp, and they keep my hair nice and clean + they smell really lovely. I’ve just picked up the citrus ones, and hopefully they also work. I ❤ citrus scented body and hair products.
ImageSo there are my May Beauty Favourites! I would LOVE to know what you’ve been loving for the month of May, so leave me a comment telling me if you’d like! 🙂

HAUL! Soap & Glory, Revlon and Maybelline!

8 Apr
Hello lovelies!

I’ve been home for the last week and a bit, and it has been SO RELAXING! I’m a first year uni student, so this time is supposed to be ‘revision’ time, but of course I HAD to go to Boots while the 3 for 2 offer is on (it’s still on for a little while, so run RUN to the shops and take advantage!!) Oh I do love it when they do that!

The very first thing I bought was the much-hyped Nearly Naked Foundation from Revlon. I was so intrigued by it, and did succumb to the hype! Very impressed so far, if you’d like a review then let me know. 🙂 I have the shade ‘Ivory’, which I THINK is the lightest shade. (I just don’t like that screw top!)

Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation is available at Boots and Superdrug and is priced at £8.99.

Image

Next up is a cream blush from Revlon called ‘Pinched’. I saw the YouTuber essiebutton talking about this blush a couple of months ago, and seeing as she has a similar skintone/skin type to me and she loved it, I decided I had to have it. I love the sleek circular pot, and I think that the product itself is good. I have quite a bit of redness on my cheeks, so once I neutralise that, I don’t always want to add blush, but this muted coral-coloured one does the trick. It’s quite sheer, incredibly easy to blend with a brush or your fingers and is from Revlon, whose face products rarely disappoint.

Revlon Cream Blush in Pinched is available at Boots or Superdrug and is priced at £7.99.

Image

Image

The next thing I got was Soap & Glory’s answer to a high-end, world-famous lip and cheek tint, Cheekmate. It caught my eye a few months ago and although I’ve been lusting after Benefit’s Benetint for aaggggeeesss, it’s just not in my price-range for one product. This was in the 3 for 2 and is a nifty little £8. I actually bought two, one for me and one for my mum, as she doesn’t have many brushes and like to apply make-up with her fingers, plus she’s a huge fan of Soap and Glory in general. Believe it or not, she has all but one of their eye products! Shades and all! She loves it, and I have to say I do too. This has raspberry seed and kiwi extract, as well as Vitamin C in it, and it’s also supposed to improve circulation in your facial capillaries. I’m not sure I need that in my cheeks, but in your lips it sounds like a fab thing!

Soap & Glory’s Cheekmate is available from Boots exclusively and is priced at £7.99.

Image

Image

While browsing around the Soap & Glory stand (seriously the best looking stand in any Boots shop!), I saw the Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss sticks. I live for Soap & Glory’s punny names for their products, don’t you just love ’em! There are only three shades of this, Fuschia-ristic (which I own and love), Nudist (ooo-errr!), and Plum Jam, which I picked up! I loved my first one, it smells like marshmallows and feels lovely on the lips. This is a burgundy-plummy shade would have been lovely for Autumn/Winter, but to be honest, I’ll wear it at any time of the year, I don’t care! I like how it’s a twist-up pecil type product even though it’s a lip gloss/stick. It’s a perfect dupe for the Revlon Kissable Balm stains, but smells better in my opinion! Lasts for a good few hours too! I definitely recommend these!

Soap & Glory’s Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks are available from Boots exclusively and are priced at £8.

Image

Image

The very last thing I picked up was a quad from Maybelline in ‘Bronze Drama’. I got this a little earlier in the month, from Superdrug, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere online. It’s an Eyestudio quad though, which has a large highlight champagne shade, an orange-gold, a gorgeous khaki, and a deep green that’s allmmmost black. It’s a gorgeous selection of colour, if a little random. I love the champagne and khaki. All four shades are nicely pigmented and buttery.
Image
Image
Image

So that’s my cheeky little haul for you! This is the first time I’ve been shopping to Boots and Superdrug in months, believe it or not!

Do you prefer applying make-up with or without brushes? Is foundation best applied with fingers?

Hope you’re all having wonderful days/evenings!

bareMinerals ‘Bright and Beautiful Kit’ in ‘Light’.

27 Mar

Image

I recently ordered for the first time from feelunique.com and picked up this bareMinerals kit that included a huge 8 FULL SIZE products from bareMinerals for….£22.85. Oh yes. 8 full sized high-end products for £23. I was shocked too. Let’s get into the products! (This will be a picture heavy post!)

Image

Prime Time Brightening Foundation Primer – £17.85 for 30ml
feelunique.com

Image

Swatched in natural daylight.

This primer is nice, it reminds me of a thinner version of Benefit’s ‘The Porefessional’. I do have a problem with the packaging though, as the nozzle squirts product out at such a force that it actually went all over my face as I was trying to swatch it. I know it’s going to go there eventually, but I want to control the amount a bit better! This could just be my bottle though.

Total so far: £17.85

Image

Prime Time Brightening Eyelid Primer – Roughly £60 for 8ml
All websites offer only 3ml for £16, which comes out to £5.33 per ml.

Image

Swatched in natural daylight.

I LOVE this primer. It’s beautiful! It’s a champagne colour, easy to blend out and in lovely packaging. bareMinerals doesn’t actually sell this in the size it came to me in. This is 8ml, and the ‘full size’ on the website and feelunique is apparently 3ml. I don’t have a problem with that! The amount you get is amazing. This is gonna last me a while! 🙂

Total so far: £77.85 (!!!!!!)

Image

Original Foundation SPF15 in ‘light w15’ – £25 for 8g.
bareminerals.co.uk and feelunique.com

  Image

Okay, this is not my skintone. I don’t think that the company thought this through, because this is INCREDIBLY yellow and not really light at all. I don’t mind though, as I do my friends’ make-up a lot and my friend Emily has more yellow-toned skin that’s a little darker than mine. However, beware if you only need this for yourself. Try to pop into a Boots that sells bareMinerals and do some swatching. If you have pink tones in your skin though, this probably won’t be for you. It’s nice to blend though, and very finely milled and soft.

Total so far: £102.85

Image

Mineral Blush in ‘Vivacious’ – £19 for 0.85g.
bareminerals.co.uk and feelunique.com

Image

Oh this is yummy! This is a perfect rosy pink blush, very nice to apply and would probably suit all skin tones. It has shimmer, not glitter, and again, is very finely milled. I love the packaging too.

Total so far: £121.85.

Image

Eyecolour in ‘Alive’ – £14 for 0.57g.
bareminerals.co.uk or feelunique.com

Image

Okay well this is ridiculous. Definitely not a shade I would use all over my eyes, like they are suggesting. The ‘deep’ shade selection of the Bright and Beautiful kit actually had a beautiful bronzey coloured shadow, which I would have appreciated a lot more than a magenta-pink. That said, it’s the same situation as the other two, very soft and fine, nice to apply.

Total so far: £135.85
Image

Image

Swatched in natural daylight.

Image

Big & Bright Eyeliner in ‘Plum’ – £13 for 0.35g.
bareminerals.co.uk or feelunique.com

Image

This eyeliner is a lovely, creamy consistency and it glides on to the waterline or tightline and smudges nicely. I actually love the colour too! It’s a plum shade, but one that isn’t too far away from black, so only someone very close would notice. It’s a nice way to start experimenting with colour if you’re afraid to wear it around the eyes! I know that I’m a sucker for black liner and neutral shadows, but you never know what might work. This looks lovely.

Total so far: £148.85
Image

Image

Lipgloss in ‘Lollipop’ – £14 for 4.2ml.
bareminerals.co.uk or feelunique.com

This is so nice! It’s a very sheer, medium pink gloss with subtle silver flecks. I say flecks because they’re definitely not glitter, just shiny. I’m not too fond of the smell, but I like the feel of it on my lips. It’s quite sticky, not as sticky as a Bourjois or Mac lipgloss, but getting there. It also has a brush applicator, rather than I doefoot, which I like. I wish there were more brush applicators on lipglosses!

Total so far: £162.85
Image

Image

Swatched in natural daylight.

Image

With flash at night.

Image

Limited edition dual-ended brush – not available.

Image

Image

This is a nice brush. It’s not really anything special, but it’s nice. The pencil end is not as dense as I want it to be, and the shadow end is perhaps too dense, but they do a nice job, and I always love to add to my brush collection.

Image

So…for all of that separately it would have cost you £162.85.

THAT IS MENTAL.

I’m really glad that I picked this kit up. It’s still in the ‘Outlet’ section on feelunique.com, so if this caught your eye, run, and I mean RUN, and pick it up. You won’t be sorry.

Do you own anything from bareMinerals? What would you love from this kit?

Christie xoxo
