Skincare Spotlight: My (Nearly) Empties

21 Aug

Hi lovelies!

So, I have a confession to make.

I’m a skincare hoarder.

There, I said it.

Fortunately, this little habit of mine only really applies to miniature and deluxe-sized products, but it’s become a poinf of contention in my house, and my sister challenged me not to buy any skincare until I’d used up a considerable amount of what’s in ‘skincare station’, as we call it.

Philosophy’s Full of Promise is a creamy moisturiser that can sometimes get a little greasy on my oily T-Zone, but is nice to use on my cheeks for a little bit of smoothness or hydration before putting on makeup.

Would I buy the full size?
Not at £50! I think that most moisturisers do similar things unless they’re really something special, so I’m not too attached to this one at the moment.

Ren’s Keep Young and Beautiful Instant Firming Beauty Shot is a light gel-like serum that you can use before moisturiser or as a standalone treatment on clean skin. You can see in the picture that it can get bubbly, it’s very slippy but I didn’t feel like it sank in particularly quickly.

Would I buy the full size?
I have to cheat on this one, because I actually have a second sample that’s slightly bigger, so I’m gonna use that up and see whether it makes any difference in the long term. If I had to decide now, I’d say no. Another hefty price tag of £36 for 30ml just puts me off.

Caudalie’s Vinosource Crème Sorbet Hydratante is a light, airy moisturizer with a bizarre texture. It’s not like the few other sorbets that I’ve tried, and it’s more like a moisturizer mixed with a serum. It has a really light, pleasant scent.

Would I buy the full size?
Probably not, but only because I have so many more moisturising products that I like a bit more. This is way more affordable than the other products on this list, coming in at £23 for 40ml.

GlamGlow’s YouthMud Tinglexfoliate Treatment is a mud mask that you can apply on problem areas in order to give your pores a deep clean, leave your skin exfoliated and smoother and tightens and tones the skin. I have this diddy sample size that got me about three liberal applications to my T-Zone, a slightly bigger pot, and the full sized version of this.

Would I buy the full size?

Yes, yes, yes. This stuff is great for when you’re having a bad skin day, or you just want a pamper sesh. It’s pricy, which is annoying, coming in at £50 for 50g, but the best thing to do is buy the gift sets around the December holiday season, you usually can get a full size lus a few deluxe samples of GlamGlow’s other products.

Clinique’s Smart Custom Serum is a creamy serum that sinks into the skin instantly, and claims to sort out uneven skin tone and wrinkles. This is the star of the show, in my opinion. It’s the product that I’ve noticed makes the most difference to my skin, and it smells gorgeous.

Would I buy the full size?

I wish. This stuff is on par with Creme de la Mer in price tag. For £110 you can get a 100ml size. *faints* That’s a lot of money for not an awful lot of product. I’m gonna see whether Clinique release any limited edition holiday sets with sample sizes of this, because I need my fix, but I don’t have the cash to throw around on serum…no matter how good it is. 😦

So after nearly finishing off all these samples, I still have this to get through.
IMG_3810And a ton of full sized skincare too. Whoops.

Hope you have a lovely day or evening, wherever you are in the world!

HAUL! Clinique, Amazon + Barry M!

31 Oct

Hello lovelies!

A little haul for you today. I ordered a few bits from Amazon and went shopping about a week ago so have picked up a few lovely bits.

First up is an acrylic makeup holder and a brush (that isn’t from Real Techniques!). Been desperately wanting one of these holders for ages and so purchased this cheapie one from Amazon. It’s sturdy and was affordable, and holds (nearly) everything I use on a day to day basis. Hoorah! I also picked up this b.dellium tools brush that’s for contouring. It’s beautiful, but does shed a little bit. A great tool though, and I always love when brushes aren’t hideously priced.

And look! After I put all my make-up in it!

I also popped to Boots and Debenhams (they had Clinique Bonus Time, I couldn’t resist) and grabbed a few new bits, but mostly Christmas presents, which I obviously can’t show because my friends occasionally read my blog. Sorry!

Clinique Moisture Surge Intense Fortifying Hydrator
This was pricey. £32. However, it has been worth it…so far. my skin always turns into a dry mess in A/W to I’m glad to have it, regardless. Plus…my first expensive skincare purchase! WOOO! #milestones

That’s just the stuff I got to keep from the Bonus Time bag! Eeeep!

I’ve tried all of these, and my fave is definitely that eye cream. It works miracles overnight, let me tell ya!

Barry M Matte Nail Paint in ‘Caramel’

I just love me some nudes. Also, the staying power on this is unbelievable! I think because it wasn’t shiny, I didn’t notice it as often and so I didn’t pick away at it. Does anyone else paint their nails and then just automatically start peeling it off?! Just me?

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in ‘Fair’

Just a repurchase of this. My fourth tube! I feel like a real addict now 😉

That’s everything I’ve picked up lately! Just a quick haul to keep you guys going while I finish work for the season and uni drops off…so busy!

Hope you’re having a wonderful day/evening, wherever you are!

FOTD: Forward Pink-ing

19 Oct

Hello lovelies!

Long time no speak! I’ve been crazy busy at university and work, and I really have missed this little blog, even though it’s only been two week. A quick FOTD for you today while I get things up and running again. I’ve been loving bright lips lately, and I never thought I would. Managed to pick up a few Clinique products today (shhhh!) and can right home at lunchtime and applied the freebie(!!!) that I got for Debenhams BonusTime. I’ll explain some of the other things I got in an upcoming haul, but head to my Instagram for a sneaky-peek! I’m very low-maintenance these days…let’s see how long that lasts!

As always, messy hair, don’t care.

Face: No7 Triple Protection Tinted Moisturiser in ‘Light’
Estée Lauder Pure Color Blush in ‘Witty Peach’

Eyes: Maybelline ‘The Rocket Waterproof’

Lips: Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in ‘Plushest Punch’

After trying this lip product, I’m gonna be racing back for more. WHY DID I NOT TRY THEM BEFORE?!

Tomorrow I’m off to work for a full day of Halloween fun. Oh, and good news! My contract was extended until January, so happy days for me. Most people finish at the end of the season, which is the 4th of November, but I applied for Christiemas (Freudian slip?) work, and I got it! Can’t wait for the holiday season. We all need a bit of joy this time of year.

Have a wonderful rest of your day or night, wherever you are…and tell someone that thee look beautiful today, it might be just what they need!

Lust Haves – Summer 2013

21 May
Lust Haves- Summer 2013
Hello lovelies!

I’m planning on a little shopping trip relatively soon, and have been lusting over a few items for a while. Summer’s on its way (I refuse to believe that it isn’t, UK!) and so everyon’es prepping themselves and their skin for long, hazy days in the sun and warm evenings with nothing on the agenda but relaxing!

1. YSL’s Touche Eclat Foundation
If you’ve read my blog before, you might have seen that I posted about the YSL’s counterpart foundation to their best-selling product of all time, the Touche Eclat concealer/eye-brightener. I’m actually still going through my diddy sample, which makes me very optimistic for the full size of the foundation! The Touche Eclat Foundation comes in 16 shades and is priced at £29 on the Boots website.

2. MAC’s 217 Blending Brush
As a beauty blogger and a cosmetics addict, I haven’t avoided the hype about this brush. Everyone and their mothers seem to own them, but I think I resent paying that much for one brush. I am usually perfectly content with my Real Techniques brushes, but having recently purchased their eye set, there isn’t really a brush that can give me what I want in terms of blending. I have a great No.7 brush that I bought about a year ago for £2.50 with a famous £5 off voucher in Boots, but I use it too much and want to see whether it is comparable to the famous 217. The 217 blending brush is priced at £17 in MAC stores and on their website.

3.  Clinique’s Chubby Sticks
I just want all of them! I’m in love with my Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks (mentioned here), and again want to see what the hype is about. I think a sheer, easy sweep of colour that’s moisturising is great for summer and is also really low-maintenance. No fuss! You can buy Clinique’s Chubby Sticks for £16 at Clinique counters, their website or the Boots website.

4. Soap and Glory’s Glow Job Daily Radiance Moisture Lotion
Oh, Soap and Glory. You come up with the BEST names for your products. A bit cheeky, and the products are always incredible. I have not taken a trip into the wonderful facial skincare selection from S&G yet, but I have some make-up items, and would recommend them all. I figured that this lotion would be a good place to start, as it gives an all over glow to the face and is also beneficial for the skin. You can buy Glow Job for £9 on the Boots website or in Boots stores.

5. Estee Lauder’s DoubleWear Light Foundation
Light coverage? Check. Long-wearing? Check. Good skin tone match? Check.
I’ve heard so many good things about the original DoubleWear Foundation, but I’ve also heard that it’s heavy coverage. I’m just not a fan of that kind of foundation, even though I’m sure it’s perfect for some. I mix most of my foundations with moisturisers anyway, so it would be a waste to buy a foundation I wouldn’t like. The Light version seems to tick all the boxes for me. However, I really can’t justify buying TWO high-end foundations that are essentially very similar when I just bought the Nearly Naked from Revlon and the True Match from Rimmel. I’ve got tons to be getting on with! I think it will have to be a spur of the moment decision once I’m in the shop! You can buy Estee Lauder’s DoubleWear Light Foundation for £27.50 from Estee Lauder counters or on the Boots website.

What’s on your Lust-Haves list? And what do you think will make it onto your ‘Must-Haves list’? Any recommendations for me? I would love to know some of your favourite make-up products or techniques for the warmer months!

Christie xoxo
