February

1 Mar

Hi lovelies!

February favourites time. I’m so glad February is over. It’s always my worst month, filled with deadlines and money woes. This is the last year though, so hoorah! (fingers crossed I pass Uni, and it is the last year) Let’s get cracking!

Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer – £7.99

This is a pretty new favourite for me, but it’s the best concealer I’ve tried in a long time. As someone who has pretty desert-y skin, with super parched under eyes, most concealers I’ve tried have just not lived up to the hype. Including the Nars Radiant Creamy and the Urban Decay Naked Skin. Major sad face. This feels light as air, provides dreamy coverage and doesn’t cling to any dry patches. That’s all I want! *snaps for Bourjois*

M.A.C Eyeshadows in ‘Omega’ (left) and ‘Patina’ (right)- £13 each

From ‘don’t believe the hype’ products, to ‘totally believe the hype products’. These shadows combine to make such the perfect barely there smokey eye look on my pale, pale skin. ‘Patina’ has long-been my favourite, and ‘Omega’ is such a perfect crease colour (as well as a universal brow powder, if you’re searching), and together they are perf. This combo is pretty much foolproof, not even ‘eye’ (haha, get it) can mess it up.

Also, these shadows are pretty much appropriate for any occasion. They’re perfect day to night-ers, I always just grab the duo and a Sigma E40 and buff on a bit more ‘Patina’ for night. And the pigmented, but non-creamy texture means they’re super long lasting.

Dior’s Glowing Gardens Illuminating Powder in ’01’ – £40

I hunted high and low for this baby. Like, seriously high and low. I had three other people on the lookout for it during my no-buy. And it’s still the only beauty product I’ve bought all year. I think I can definitively say that it’s my favourite highlighter of all time. Yep, I went there. I have so many highlighters, and this one is the cream of the crop. For all you fair-skinned girls out there, you just can’t go wrong with ’01’, and for everyone else, there’s ’02’. It’s silky, the perfect balance of glisten and glow, and it looks perfect. Just perfect. Look!

Too Faced Melted Lipstick in ‘Fig’ – £19

Now. When I first got this just before Christmas, I almost hated it. I swatched it and went ‘Noooooooooo!’ I remember this clearly, because about a week afterwards, I went to London for a Twitter Q+A with Tina Fey. Yeah, nbd guys, just, you know, one of my heroes. And I picked this up at 6am, and thought, ‘I’ll give it a go again, I suppose.’ Thank goodness I did, because this baby is the perfect winter pink for me. It’s not dark enough to be berry, and not light enough to be nude, it’s that perfect balance, and I just adore the way it looks.

A very poor photo from Snapchat, but omg look how pretty right?!

Zoeva brushes – prices vary

I’m so in love with my Zoeva brushes that I couldn’t pick just one as a favourite. I got these in the glorious 5 days between Christmas and New Year and oh my. The best value for money brush ever, the best presentation ever. Fab fab brushes, and if you’re a little wary of splashing the cash on a set (these are the Rose Gold Vol.1 Eye Set), please just pick up one, fall in love, and thank me later.

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

I thought this was totally kick-ass. I described it as The Hunger Games meets The Selection, which will possibly only mean something if you’re into YA. The author has just released book 2, Glass Sword, and has said there’ll be two more books. Very exciting!

Room-2015-Movie-Poster

Room

I saw this at 9.30am, alone, on a Thursday morning, in an empty cinema. It’s one of those films you leave the cinema thinking about, and spend the next week turning it over through your mind, churning through thoughts and feelings about the subject matter. I’m so so thrilled that Brie Larson won Best Actress at the Oscars, she was phenomenal, and Jacob Tremblay, who you’ve probably seen owning awards season and charming the socks off everyone he meets, has one of those faces that the camera just adores. Can’t wait to see what he does next. I will think about this film for a long time.

Carly-Rae-Jepsen-Emotion

E.Mo.Tion – Carly Rae Jepsen

Yes, you heard right. Carly Rae Jepsen. This album is total bubblegum, and it knows it. Jepsen is no Taylor Swift, trying to sneak in little thoughtful ballads, or wanting to play with the media through lyrics. She just wants everyone dancing. I love this album, and February thanked me for discovering it. But beware, it’s pop. I mean, sickly sweet pop, so proceed at you own risk.

And that’s it for this month, lovelies. I can’t wait to get March out of the way. Once I hit the end of the month, I will have finished every single lecture of my Uni course. WAHOO.

Have a great day, or evening, wherever you are.

Huge Collective Haul!

5 Feb

Hello lovelies!
Image

A big haul today. I’ve been shopping too much, but we all know how that goes. My bank account is definitely suffering after all the shopping during December and now January…*cries*
On with the haul!

ImageBenefit’s ‘Hoola’ Bronzer – £23.50

ImageI’ve had a sample size of Hoola forever, I got a big set of Benefit samples last Christmas from my Mum and am still going through a couple of the samples. I figured it was time to upgrade to the full size as I just hit pan on the little sample. It’s a mid toned bronzer, good for lighter skin tones. I can’t wait to be able to use a bronzer brush that’s a good size now! Hoorah!

ImageBenefit’s ‘Stay Don’t Stray’ Primer for Concealers and Eyeshadows – £20.50

ImageThis is the first full-size that I’ve had of this product. I adore it. It’s essentially the only product I can’t live without. Even if I’m not wearing ANY make-up I will gravitate towards wearing this. I’m so excited to have this little beauty in my life. 🙂

ImageBenefit’s ‘They’re Real’ Mascara – £19.50

Image

This mascara is the bee’s knees in the blogging world. It’s also the best-selling mascara in the UK. Even above drugstore ones. Yeah. I’ve had about six minis and one full size of this, but I was just clinging to my first tube for sentimental reasons. That baby was definitely not usable anymore. I had a little funeral for it as I threw it in the bin. But now I have this beautiful shiny new one. Definitely the best mascara I’ve tried for length and definition.

ImageMaybelline’s ‘The Falsies Volum’ Express’ Mascara – £7.99

ImageI love Maybelline’s ‘The Rocket’ Mascara and so I decided to pick up another of their hyped-up mascaras. Have no idea what this one is like yet. It looks like a wet formula, which I don’t usually hate, so fingers crossed.

ImageMaybelline’s ‘Brow Drama’ Brow Mascara – £4.99

ImageThis was kind of an impulse buy. There was a 3 for 2 offer and I jumped at it, but it’s actually pretty god. I’ve used it a couple of times and apart from the awkward wand, it does exactly what I need it to. It gives a little bit of colour and a nice hold. Yay!

ImageMaybelline’s ‘Color Tattoo 24hr’ in ‘Permanent Taupe’ – £4.99

ImageI was so hesitant to pick this up, but grabbed it at the last minute in Boots in a rush. I used it on my housemate last night and it worked really well on her…we shall see. It’s completely matte and quite full coverage on the lids.

Image

The Body Shop’s ‘Honey Bronzing Powder’ – £13.00

ImageCult product alert! This has been in essiebutton’s videos for months, and I’ve been tempted every time she mentions it. The Body Shop actually have a pretty extensive make-up collection, and there are loads of shades of this bronzer. My housemate was drawn in and picked it up too. I love it! It’s more subtle than Hoola, which is great for everyday use.

ImageRevlon’s ‘Lip Butter’ in ‘Red Velvet’ – £7.99

ImageThis is my…6th lip butter! (yes I did just count) I’ve been on the hunt for this shade for a while. It’s more vampy than the others I have, and is exactly what I’ve been looking for for a while! It’s gorgeous 🙂

Image

ImageRevlon’s ‘Matte Balm’ in ‘Standout (Berry)’ and ‘Elusive (Pink)’ – £7.99

Image

ImageRevlon’s ‘Lacquer Balm’ in ‘Vivacious’ -£7.99

ImageI caved to the hype and I am so not sorry! I love all of these little guys. The matte ones are beautiful, and the lacquer one is such a gorgeous colour. I can’t wait until I can wear that lacquer one every day in the summertime. There’s a colour for everyone, honestly. The UK have literally just got these in Boots and Superdrug, so I know that the US have had them for ages, but it’s a brand new ball game for us over here in rainy England.

ImageTop – bottom: Vivacious Lacquer Balm, Standout Matte Balm and Elusive Matte Balm.

ImageBourjois’ Happy Light Matte Primer – £10.99

I got this in early January on a trip to the cinema with my friend Andrew. I actually purchased it with Boots points, and I love it! It’s a bit weird that I picked up the matte primer instead of the luminous one considering I have dry skin, but I’m so glad I did! It’s such a great base. I’m not a fan of the silicone-y primers like The Porefessional from Benefit or the new Baby-Skin Primer from Maybelline, and this one is more of a gel texture.

Image

Revlon’s ‘Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick’ in ‘Mauve it Over’ – £7.49

I’m still at war with myself as to whether I like this or not. It seemed like a perfect purchase at the time but is definitely not very me. I prefer corals or vampy reds, and this is like an orangey-nude my lips but better shade. I’m gonna have to wear this for a bit longer to figure out whether I love it or loathe it.

Image

I was in Boots a few days ago and saw some signs around the Clarins counter that advertised a little bag of samples. I’ve never really inveristigated Clarins as a brand before, but there didn’t seem to be any catch with the samples, just a little skincare consultation. I spoke to the lady (named Catherine in Boots Staines) and she was so lovely. She gave me this little bag of goodies and I can’t wait to test it all out! 🙂

PHEW! That was a long post. I’m mentally exhausted now, and feel more guilty for spending all my hard-earned cash. However, I know that most of these products are gonna end up being real faves of mine. I think that means it’s a win!

Have you picked up anything new from the drugstore lately? There are so many new releases I don’t know where to begin!

Have a lovely day or evening, wherever you are!

Beauty Buzz Buys

24 Sep

Hello lovelies!
Some things we buy due to impulse. Other things we research and save up for. And some things…some things make us cave to the hype. A few recent buys of mine have definitely been due to the beauty buzz! Mini reviews after each one let all of you know whether they’re worth the wonga.

ImageLa Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo – £13

This stuff is supposed to be the latest in French skincare and some kind of miracle worker when it comes to imperfections. It bears a pretty hefty price tag but is supposed to be worth it. At the moment, after about a week, I haven’t seen anything improve. In fact, my skin is actually pretty bad at the moment. I’m not that impressed with what’s supposed to be the best skincare around. I shall definitely keep using it though.

What are your opinions on expensive skincare? Do you think they should provide results within a couple of days to go with the large price tag?

ImageBourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation – £10.99

I try so many foundations that sometimes they become a little forgettable. However, this one stands out from the crowd. I’m a big lover of the 1-2-3 Perfect foundation from Bourjois, but this is silky-smooth and a little more hydrating. I’ve been having some issues with redness around my nose and this foundation is one of the only ones in my collection that goes some way to covering that up. It is expensive for a drugstore foundation, but if you have normal/dry skin and are looking for something that doesn’t just enhance your dry patches, it’s worth giving this a go. Not to mention that it smells ABSOLUTELY DIVINE. Like fruity and fresh for your face!

ImageVitamin E Sink-In Moisture Mask from The Body Shop£12

Hmm. This is a difficult one. I love the way this is so quick to dry on my skin, and it does give me nice moisture, but it hasn’t got that ‘wow-factor’ that I have come to expect from The Body Shop. I suppose that I hold them in high standards. This is nice but not nice enough for me to repurchase I don’t think. Good for little annoying dry patches and you can pile it on as many times as you like in one day without your skin screaming out for a break.

ImageImage(Of course the middle brush has been used aha!)

Real Techniques Duo-Fibre Brush Collection – £23

I caved and bought another set of RT brushes.I know, I know, shoot me. I am wholeheartedly impressed with every single brush I have purchased from the Real Techniques line. These guys are no exception. They are limited edition, super soft and just what I needed/didn’t really need but wanted anyway! If you haven’t tried any Real Techniques brushes, you absolutely should. They are well worth it.

So there’s my little first impressions on those items that had me buzzing! I’m being paid soon and so I’m sure there will be another haul coming your way in the near future.

Until then, I’d love it if you tweeted me your thoughts on hyped-up products! I’m @totallychristie on Twitter!
Have a wonderful day/evening, wherever you are!

FOTD: Peach Perfect

18 Sep

Hello lovelies!

I thought I would pop a little FOTD in here. In the UK, we have had a lush Summer, but them September 8th came. You could feel the change in the air (or was it just me?). I woke up for work and it was like I stepped out of bed into Autumn. To me, it means one step closer to the most fabulous time of the year, Winter, but to loads of others, it just means that Summer has been left behind. As a little homage to Summer, I thought I’d help everyone cling to the warmer months with a peach lippy, but give it a cool-toned twist.

ImageCheeks: Powder (Rimmel’s ‘Bronze) over cream (Revlon’s ‘Pinched’)
Lips: Topshop’s ‘Whimsical’
Face: Bourjois’ Healthy Mix Serum in ‘Light Vanilla’

Eyes: BareMinerals’ Prime Time Brightening Shadow Primer

That cool-toned peachy coral! AH LOVE!
Hope you all have a wonderful day/night, wherever you are!
Image
A little *disclaimer*. I enjoy putting make-up on, and could happily do my make-up and experiment all day, however, when it comes to my hair, if I’m not leaving my house, I do NOT see the point. I have thick, wavy hair that doesn’t really like to behave either. It would take three times as long to do my hair than my face.
That rather long-winded disclaimer-type thing is just to explain why my hair looks crap basically. I feel like actually doing my hair would have taken less time than to type that out! Ha! 🙂

Lust Haves – Summer 2013 2.0

27 Jun

Hello lovelies!
I’m going shopping tomorrow, and plan to return with many beautiful things, as I got my first ever full month’s wages the other day! These are what I’ve been lusting over for a few busy (and blog-less) few weeks.
Image

1. Revlon’s Nail Enamel in ‘Bare Bones’
I saw this a few months back on essiebutton’s blog and as I’m a big lover of nude nail polish, I wanted it instantly. It slipped to the back of my mind, but as I was sorting through my collection the other day, I realised that a. I didn’t have it and b.I really wanted it.

2. Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream
This is a holy grail product for so many people, but I have never had any interest in Elizabeth Arden products. However, I break out around my chin all the time and I’m hoping this might solve dry skin and spots around there. Probably not but it’s worth a go!

3. Bourjois Vintage Little Round Blush Pot in Rose d’Or
These are so cute, and that’s basically my reasoning behind wanting this! Also, as a French student, anything with French-esque packaging is basically a compulsory buy.

Sorry I’ve been so absent lately guys! Hoping to get some more posts in soon! 🙂

Also thought I’d share this gem with you.

Concealaholic: Bags be gone!

3 Mar

So, I’m ashamed to say that a year ago I never used concealer. Yes, I know, how did I live? How did I go out in the mornings? Well, in retrospect, I’m glad I didn’t, because it allowed me to learn to like my face without make-up. I’m not ashamed to post my non-makeup eye look on here because I learnt to do just that. Here’s a little before shot. Excuse the extremely unruly eyebrows and greasy skin (I just moisturised!)

Image
However, this glorious invention has since entered my life, and I’ve been searching for the perfect budget concealer for a while. And I think I’ve found the perfect combination.

In this picture, I am wearing the following products.
Gosh Foundation Primer in Classic
Rimmel London Stay Matte Foundation in 103: True Ivory
Miss Sporty Liquid Concealer in 001: Light (applied first with a brush, this is a heavy-duty concealer)
Bourjois Bio-Detox Organic Anti-Puffiness Concealer(phew!) in No. 2- Medium (dabbed gently with my ring finger)
Collection 2000 Pressed Powder in 10: Daydream
Barry M Kohl Pencil in White (along my waterline)
Stila Eyeshadow in Sandra (unfortunately discontinued, but any champagne colour would work!)
Gosh Haute Precision Mascara in Black

Hopefully, this finished eye look gives a better look than the natural one, but make-up obviously shouldn’t be changing your face entirely, it should just enhance your features naturally on an everyday basis.

Image

(Just a quick note, these pictures were taken 10 minutes apart, with the same facial expression and in the same lighting and place. I find it really obvious when companies take before and after pictures that have been tweaked with lighting changes, or airbrushing!)

If anyone has any suggestions or comments about any of their concealing products or any of mine, then I’d love to hear! Also, if anyone would like a review on a certain product, then just leave me a comment!

Happy weekend, and don’t forget to smile!
Christie 🙂
