Resolutely

9 Jan

Hi lovelies!

Happy 2016!

I’ve always found myself to be the worst at resolutions. But not even out loud ones. In my head, quiet, secret ones still aren’t followed through with.

So ‘beginning of the year’ posts about resolutions always make me anxious, for the people making such huge promises to themselves, and for me, because they just remind me that I’m bad at keeping my little personal promises.

So I’m going to go with some general ‘I would like to’ statements. If that’s ok.

I would like to…listen to music more

As a teenager, especially at school, I spent most of my time listening to or making music. I’m not sure, but I think if you’re a music person, you need it in your life or it starts to affect you on a day to day basis. If I don’t listen to any music in a week, I get all grumpy and horrid and moody. And all it takes to fix it is an hour alone with my headphones and a great playlist. So, more music.

I would like to…stop buying so many beauty products

I am a total beauty junkie, but I think I need to prove to myself that I don’t need to buy products to enjoy makeup. Plus, I don’t have enough money to be a shopaholic. I added up approximately how much I spent on beauty products in 2015 and the result was not pretty. I nearly cried. So, less spending.

I would like to…work hard

This is a weird one, but I am a workaholic. I love working and earning my own money, because no-one can tell you how to spend that money. And I’m a firm believer in the idea that if you work hard, then someone will notice and it will pay off in the end. So, more work, and more good work.

I would like to…write more

I’m not sure what this means, to be honest. I haven’t got an awful lot of belief in myself when it comes to my writing, but I’m gonna give it a go. More blog posts, more TV stuff, and maybe I’ll get around to writing down the idea that’s been floating in my head for years now.

I would like to…graduate

It’s my final year of Uni! I have approximately six months left. And I started this blog just before my first year of Uni started. It’s all very full circle. I’ve had such a weird time at Uni, and I can’t say I’ve loved it. I wish I’d chosen a different subject, a different place maybe. But I am proud of myself for passing everything, living alone in a foreign country for nine months, and I’ve met some wonderful people. So, let’s finish it off.

I’m pretty sure that 2015 was my best year yet. I grew so much as a person on my year abroad, I challenged myself over the summer at a horrible job, learned more, made some rough decisions, worked hard and laughed. A lot. Thanks for sticking around on this little inconsistent mish-mash of a blog. I really appreciate it.

My Big Move

8 Nov

Hello lovelies!

After a very long absence, I’m back. I’m definitely guilty of procrastinating…but 5 months?! I apologise! :O Not a lot has changed, apart from, you know, where I live. I moved to France! Eeeeep! For those of you who are unfamiliar with this little pet project of mine, I’m currently a university student at Royal Holloway, University of London – and studying French and Drama. Third years have to undertake a year abroad, and I’m spending mine in Bayonne, which is in the South-West of France. Firstly, it’s gorgeous. Seriously beautiful. But secondly…it’s terrifying. Oh my goodness, so so terrifying. Moving to university didn’t really phase me at all, I was so eager to get out of school that I jumped at the chance to be more independent, wherever it was. But after two years there, not only have I come to love my university setting, but also appreciate my hometown SO MUCH MORE. Has this happened to anyone else? Add a dash of homesickness to an overwhelming language change, and you get a pretty scary environment. However, after six weeks here, I can honestly say that I’m starting to feel at home. I’m working in two schools as a language assistant with kids aged 10-22 for twelve hours a week. I thought I’d share a few pictures of the area I live in – happy to report that there is a Sephora and plenty of French pharmacies around – watch out for a blog post on Sephora findings a little later in the month.

The view from my back window - not even kidding! Bayonne Cathedrale.

Excuse the blurriness, but this is me and Noa, a Spanish assistant from a town about an hour from Bayonne. We went to dinner with two other assistants in a little creperie about a minute's walk from my apartment.

And this one. The cathedral again. I could have spent all day here, just reading.

So there we go. A few life updates since July – I finished work at Legoland after a really long summer that was challenging and incredibly fun. I’m definitely going to be heading back there at the beginning of fourth year, there’s nothing quite like it.
I also turned twenty! Eeeeep. Twenty is a weird age. I definitely feel like I’m in adult-limbo. Someone told me I was in my twenties the other day and I nearly shouted ‘NO I’M NOT’ at them before realising that it’s true. Ergh.
I also bought my first bottle of Bioderma. Big changes guys, big changes.

So, please tell me what you’ve been loving, life updates, and what you want to see from me on the blog.

I feel like this blog can legitimately be called BonjourChristie now. I’ve got some kind of pseudo-French credibility.

Hope you’re having a wonderful day or evening, wherever you are!

Sick Day Essentials

15 May

Hello lovelies!
I’m feeling pretty gross today, but decided that my piles and piles of beauty products would be able to make me feel better, or even just cheer me up a bit! So here are the skin saviours that perked me up today…
ImageVichy Thermal Spa Water – £7 for 150ml
The ultimate refreshing wake up call, Vichy’s Thermal Water is great for sensitive skin and is paraben free, so you know that you’re not being nagged by any nasties on your sick days.
Clarins HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase – £42 for 100ml
A lifesaver for dry skin. This product smells fresh and clean, feels silky smooth and makes skin plumper, which is just what you need when your skin feels like the Sahara. I’m still using up my little sample that I got from the Clarins counter earlier in the spring. Love this product.
Smashbox PhotoFinish Hydrating Under-Eye Primer –  £21 for 0.33oz
On days when I want nothing to do with foundation, I usually stick to concealer or highlighter, as it gives me a brightened effect for the dark circles under my eyes, and this is the perfect partner in prime for smoothing the under eyes before concealer.
L’Oreal Lumi Magique Concealer – £8.49
I
‘m currently in the midst of a concealer battle. It’s Maybelline’s Lumi Touch vs. L’Oreal’s Lumi Magique….you think they’re interested in illuminating at all? A brightening concealer is the number one fool-proof tool to create the appearance of being rested. Hooray for concealer!
Nivea Lip Butter in Raspberry Rose – £2.25 for 19ml
It’s an undisputed fact that when you get poorly, your lips suffer. All the sniffing and nose blowing, your smackers end up needing some serious TLC. This stuff smells SO GOOD. I seriously can’t get enough.
Babywipes/Tissues
Runny noses are the worst right?! I always use babywipes rather than tissues because once you attack your nose with tissue number 10, you probably look like you’ve started taking makeup tips from Rudolph.

There are my sick day essentials. What are yours? I’m back to work tomorrow so I hope I feel better!
Hope you have a wonderful day/evening, wherever you are!

MAC Attack: Lipsticks in ‘Diva’ and ‘Coral Bliss’ + Swatches

25 Apr

Hello lovelies!

Back with a super speedy post for you today about my first two MAC lipsticks! I purchased these a little while ago when Debenhams were offering a bag of freebies and free delivery on all orders over £20. They do that quite a bit, and I cave EVERY time.

A little update… + HAPPY NEW YEAR!

11 Jan

Hello lovelies!

I’ve had a rather long ‘blog-vacation’. I know…over 2 months! Although there are multiple reasons for this, the most important one is probably that I really have been busy. I had a couple of essays due in November and at the beginning of December, I applied for my British Council Language Assistantship in BELGIUM (:O), I worked throughout the entire Christmas period at a very festive Legoland Windsor (spoiler alert to those of you who are new readers or didn’t know 😉 ) and I spent some relaxing time with my family to round out 2013. What a year! I passed my first year at Uni, got myself a job, worked throughout summer, went to Prague, turned 19, worked some more, started my second year, worked some more and ended the year with some wonderful friends and my fab family. Despite all of this, it was definitely a difficult year too. Unfortunately my lovely Nan passed away in September, and I felt pretty lonely a lot of the time. However, I feel like I could be approaching the end of this stage of my life, the messy, disorganised, workaholic stage. Everyone goes through tough times, but it’s how we deal with it that truly defines us. Got a little bit deep there lovelies, hope you don’t mind. 😉

I’ve been thinking about some resolutions for this year. Not really ‘resolutions’, more like ‘things you just have to learn to do/be if you’re actually going to become a fully-functioning adult’. Fear not though poppets, my intense love of beauty products has only become more of a problem. The thing is, I feel like if I put my resolutions on this blog, then I have to follow through. The internet will totally hunt me down if I don’t…right?

1. I will keep my living space organised. Notice I say organised, not tidy…I just think that I will never be a tidy person! Tough luck inner Virgo!

2. I will take chances. 2014 involves me taking a biiiiiiiggggg step. I have to move to a foreign country, speak and learn a language and teach children. I think that it’s going to be incredible, and I can’t wait, but obviously…I’m petrified. I feel like if I take more chances then I’ll find my place over there. (I shall keep you updated on this saga in little blog posts I think.) 🙂

3. I will not be pressured into doing things that I do not want to do. One of the biggest challenges about university for me is that I am not a typical Uni student. I don’t like the clubs and pubs, I’m not a big drinker, the societies I’ve tried at my Uni haven’t tickled my fancy and I’ve only properly bonded with one or two people in nearly a year and a half (and one of those people is leaving me in June…sob…sob….). The ‘Uni life’ isn’t really for me, which I always knew but never really anticipated properly. It’s hard to learnt o stand your ground when difficult situations could mean you accidentally isolate yourself. However, I kind of like to live by the quote ‘If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything’ and I find that it helps to remember this when something comes up that I don’t like/want to do/am not interested in. I’ll find my place easier if I am true to myself.

4. I will send care packages. I’ve got three proper besties, and a couple of super-close chummys, so one of my resolutions is that I will show them how much I appreciate them and everything they do for me. I live with one who’s graduating and heading to grad school in her native US in September, and I can’t wait to send her letters and little bits of the UK so that she can hold onto this bit of her life. Eeeep! Then I can go to America and visit her at her prestigious grad school. Hoorah!

5. I will buy more clothes. I’m so terrible at this. As a curvy girl, it’s hard to find clothes that fit right, and sometimes you have to dig…and dig…and dig…to even find something that resembles cute/stylish in your size. (Side note, my sister struggles with this also and she’s a size 6, definitely not exclusive to larger ladies. Our favourite place to shop for clothes? TESCO. Oh yeah. Affordable and adorable.). If it’s a choice between £30 in Boots or £30 on a pair of jeans, I’d choose Boots all the way. My wardrobe is suffering.

6. BLOG. New year, new name (the one I wanted at the beginning) and a new determination to blog. I can’t wait to see what the year brings me. And it means that I take more pictures, which I’m always up for!

I’ve been re-hired for next season at Legoland, so that means I’m back mid-February until August, when I turn the big 2-0. Wowowowow. I’m ready to get some teaching experience now, to see whether I like it properly so I can start tailoring my degree to what career I want. I’m also super ready to buy new brands of make-up this year (new to me). NARS, I’m comin’ for ya. I know there’s been some severe weather worldwide recently. I live 5 minutes from the Thames and drive along the river on my way to work. There was a journey home where I literally squealed with nerves the whole time because I was aquaplaning everywhere! Ah! To everyone in the UK especially, please take care. Don’t go out into dangerous weather unless you absoltuely have to. A young boy went out to take pictures of the storms a few weeks ago and was killed due to the severity of the flooding and choppy waters. Pllleeeeaassse be careful. Little mum-like warning over!

I’d also like to say a big ‘HAPPY NEW YEAR’ to you guys. If any of you have stumbled upon this blog more than once, it’s nice to see you again and I hope you’ve had a great start to January. While I have been away on this blog, I’ve been pretty active over on Twitter and Instagram. I’d love to see you there!

Hope you have a wonderful day/evening, wherever you are!
