NOTD: Blue Me Away

30 Apr

*Quick sidenote before I start this post: I’ve been loving Pinterest lately! If you’d like to follow me on there, that would be awesome, because it would give me more people to follow! Now on with the post!*

Hello lovelies!

Just a little NOTD post for you – there was a time on this blog where I actually called these posts NOTY (Nails of the Year) because I never wore nail polish. How times have changed! This was the very first polish I featured on my blog over a year ago! I would like to think that my blog has improved (and my photos too!) since then!
ImageImage

Now that it’s getting into spring/summer in the UK (it lasts for such a short amount of time that you have to blend them into one), I decided to re-vamp my nail polish collection and choices. I’m a big fan of the Barry M polishes, and I have quite a few now (would anyone like to see a collection?) so this colour jumped out as a natural choice. It’s easy to work with (three thin coats, dried quickly, good formula) and the colour is just what you need to make you feel light and airy!

In other news, my student loan came in, and since I worked a 40 hour week at a part-time job last week, I decided I would treat myself in advance, so there should be a little haul coming up! Today I’m just planning on taking some photos while I have beautiful weather for it, and I’m producing a show of Julius Caesar with the Shakespeare Society at my Uni, and it’s the second day of auditions tonight. I love auditioning people! čÖé

Hope you’re all having a beautiful day, and that it’s as nice where you are as it is where I am! čÖé

FOTD: Coral Ambition!

26 Apr

Hello lovelies!

Hope you are all having/had a great Friday! It’s the weekend, wooo!

Quick FOTD for you! The UK have been having some kind of freak April heatwave, and it was actually 20C earlier this week! I decided to whack out the spring colours while I had the chance, and also I gave my lower lashes a break. I always think it makes a nice change to do a look where you only use mascara on your upper lashes! čÖé

Image

The lipstick is Topshop’s ‘Ohh La La’ and I put on a Stila Smudge Stick in ‘Stargazer’ on my lashline.

Hope you’re having some great weather too!

Have a wonderful weekend, I’m currently trying to start work on two essays for Uni that are due in on Monday and still get an early night, as I have a 6.30 start tomorrow :S Wish me luck!

Life update! New…job?! + my previous jobs and tips!

24 Apr

(Warning, this post is a bit different, and also, at times, vague. I am only doing that because I have to (I wish I didn’t), it’s part of a contract!)

Hello lovelies!

Long time, no speak. I’m sorry I’ve been so absent in the blogging world, but I actually have a┬álegitimate reason this time….I got a job!
I started looking for a job as soon as I got to uni, I went on countless CV runs around the local town, applied for probably close to 50 jobs online, and only┬áreceived┬áa few replies and interviews. A couple of weeks ago, just after I went home for the Easter break, I got an e-mail from a local place, inviting me to attend an assessment in a week’s time. I was really excited, but of course, I’d already come home! After managing to convince my mother (thanks Mum) to drive me nearly two hours to the assessment, I planned my trip. Continue reading

Yes! I’m indulging in photos from last year when the weather was nice in order to compensate for whatever crap’s going on now!

To all you lovelies who don’t live in the UK or aren’t familiar with the weather here, it’s April and a week ago it was snowing. I am totally 100% a winter girl, but snow in April just seems wrong to me. I love living with a beach closeby (I live on an island, so pretty much any direction leads to a beach) but it sure does bring the wind with it in bad weather times!

I can’t wait for when I can stash my winter coat away for good and bring out the dresses!

I hope the weather where you are it a little better! If it is, I’d love to know where in the world you are so I can book a holiday, sharpish! čÖé

Hope you are all having smashing days,
Christie xoxo

I’m just not an outdoors person…

13 Apr

I'm just not an outdoors person...

I often have to justify why I spend so much time indoors. One excuse I came up with is ‘I’m just not an outdoors person’. That’s not necessarily true. Sometimes it’s easier to sit inside rather than take a walk in the rain, and frankly, I’d rather not get my hair wet. But there are some days that just call for a stroll around campus. And sometimes you just love it.

Don’t grow up, it’s a trap!

I came across this image on Pinterest the other day, and for some reason, it really resonated with me. I’m at university, which is somewhere I’ve wanted to be for as long as I can remember, but now I’m there, all I think about is how much fun school was.┬á

Growing up can be brilliant, but I also think there are some serious downfalls. Like not car-sharing with your best friends, not eating lunch at the same time every day, and not seeing your favourite teachers.

I think the thing that you should take away from this post, especially if you’re young, is that time really does fly. Don’t wish away your teenage years, as much as they seem REALLY crappy right now!

I hope you’re all having a wonderful day or evening, wherever you are!

HAUL! Soap & Glory, Revlon and Maybelline!

8 Apr
Hello lovelies!

I’ve been home for the last week and a bit, and it has been SO RELAXING! I’m a first year uni student, so this time is supposed to be ‘revision’ time, but of course I HAD to go to Boots while the 3 for 2 offer is on (it’s still on for a little while, so run RUN to the shops and take advantage!!) Oh I do love it when they do that!

The very first thing I bought was the much-hyped Nearly Naked Foundation from Revlon. I was so intrigued by it, and did succumb to the hype! Very impressed so far, if you’d like a review then let me know. čÖé I have the shade ‘Ivory’, which I THINK is the lightest shade. (I just don’t like that screw top!)

Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation is available at Boots and Superdrug and is priced at £8.99.

Next up is a cream blush from Revlon called ‘Pinched’. I saw the YouTuber essiebutton┬átalking about this blush a couple of months ago, and seeing as she has a similar skintone/skin type to me and she loved it, I decided I had to have it. I love the sleek circular pot, and I think that the product itself is good. I have quite a bit of redness on my cheeks, so once I neutralise that, I don’t always want to add blush, but this muted coral-coloured one does the trick. It’s quite sheer, incredibly easy to blend with a brush or your fingers and is from Revlon, whose face products rarely disappoint.

Revlon Cream Blush in Pinched is available at Boots or Superdrug and is priced at £7.99.

The next thing I got was Soap & Glory’s answer to a high-end, world-famous lip and cheek tint, Cheekmate. It caught my eye a few months ago and although I’ve been lusting after Benefit’s Benetint for aaggggeeesss, it’s just not in my price-range for one product. This was in the 3 for 2 and is a nifty little ┬ú8. I actually bought two, one for me and one for my mum, as she doesn’t have many brushes and like to apply make-up with her fingers, plus she’s a huge fan of Soap and Glory in general. Believe it or not, she has all but one of their eye products! Shades and all! She loves it, and I have to say I do too. This has raspberry seed and kiwi extract, as well as Vitamin C in it, and it’s also supposed to improve circulation in your facial┬ácapillaries. I’m not sure I need that in my cheeks, but in your lips it sounds like a fab thing!

Soap & Glory’s Cheekmate is available from Boots┬áexclusively┬áand is priced at ┬ú7.99.

While browsing around the Soap & Glory stand (seriously the best looking stand in any Boots shop!), I saw the Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss sticks. I live for Soap & Glory’s punny names for their products, don’t you just love ’em! There are only three shades of this, Fuschia-ristic (which I own and love), Nudist (ooo-errr!), and Plum Jam, which I picked up! I loved my first one, it smells like marshmallows and feels lovely on the lips. This is a burgundy-plummy shade would have been lovely for Autumn/Winter, but to be honest, I’ll wear it at any time of the year, I don’t care! I like how it’s a twist-up pecil type product even though it’s a lip gloss/stick. It’s a perfect dupe for the Revlon Kissable Balm stains, but smells better in my opinion! Lasts for a good few hours too! I definitely recommend these!

Soap & Glory’s Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks are available from Boots exclusively and are priced at ┬ú8.

The very last thing I picked up was a quad from Maybelline in ‘Bronze Drama’. I got this a little earlier in the month, from Superdrug, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere online. It’s an Eyestudio quad though, which has a large highlight champagne shade, an orange-gold, a gorgeous khaki, and a deep green that’s allmmmost black. It’s a gorgeous selection of colour, if a little random. I love the champagne and khaki. All four shades are nicely pigmented and buttery.

So that’s my cheeky little haul for you! This is the first time I’ve been shopping to Boots and Superdrug in months, believe it or not!

Do you prefer applying make-up with or without brushes? Is foundation best applied with fingers?

Hope you’re all having wonderful days/evenings!

Review: Topshop’s ‘Desert Sun’ Bronzer/Blush Duo

1 Apr

Hello lovelies!

Today I’ll be reviewing a product I’ve actually owned for a while, but have only started really using recently, and that’s Topshop’s Bronzer/Blush Duo in ‘Desert Sun’.

ImageThe packaging on this is super-cute, and very American-esque, don’t you think? Kind of reminds me of stars and stripes! It’s also pretty sturdy, it snaps shut in a very satisfying way and is holding up well. It’s nice and compact, easy to travel with. It doesn’t have a mirror inside though, which I always hate. If the room is there, why not put one there? The packaging, like a lot of Topshop’s make-up, has the tendency to get pretty dirty though. However, it’s nothing major and comes off easily with a make-up wipe.

Image

Image

Doesn’t the blank space where the mirror *should* be annoy you?!

Image

Top: mixed, middle: bronzer, bottom: blush.

The product itself is raised up into a dome, not unlike the Mac Beauty Powders. It’s roughly half blush, half bronzer. The blush is a coral colour, whereas the bronzer is absolutely a golden shimmer. The great thing about this product is that it’s a 3-in-1 job. You’ve got a blush, bronzer and a highlight type colour when you mix them together.

Image

Top: mixed, middle: bronzer, bottom: blush.

ImageI think this product performs best when it’s mixed together and used as either a blush or a highlight. The blush alone isn’t pigmented enough, and the bronzer is too yellow/orange-tones to work well for me, but could be nice on more tanned skin. Bearing in mind I always buy the lightest foundation to match my skin, this possibly would suit many skin tones. I’m looking forward to seeing whether I can get some use of the bronzer as a lone product in the summer.

This is actually advertised on Topshop’s website as solely a bronzer, but I really think it’s more of a combo product.┬á

ImageVerdict: 3/5.

This product definitely didn’t blow me away, but it’s gonna be a nice addition to my summer make-up choices, and it’s a good hit for Topshop, who don’t get a lot of hype surrounding their face products. It’s also a bit pricy, at ┬ú12.50, you could buy a face palette from Sleek, or 12 cream blushes from MUA!

‘Desert Sun’ is available at Topshop stores and the Topshop website.

Have you tried any of Topshop’s make-up? What are your favourite summer face products? I can feel it approaching!
