Nails of the Year: Blue Moon Glitters

25 Feb

I am not a nail varnish type of person. However, after watching videos where it seemed to be an essential part of one’s look, I was compelled into buying…yes, that’s right. Nail varnish.

Warning: This is a Nails of the Year post, which means that I have almost zero knowledge of  how durable/pigmented high-quality nail varnishes are supposed to be. The only nail-varnish I’ve ever used is the little kiddie sets 🙂

NYC Expert Last Nail Polish in ‘Lights-Camera-Glitter’ and Barry M Nail Paint in ‘Blue Moon’

I visited Superdrug last weekend, and bought a Barry M Nail Paint on a whim. I don’t have any pastel nail varnish, and this light blue colour was a steal at £2.99. It’s in the colour ‘Blue Moon’ and number 317. I actually bought it because if you bought two Barry M products then you got a free eyeliner! That deal is currently still available in Superdrug, so catch it while you can.
I then seemed to catch a shopping bug, and today, after doing some serious damage at Primark, I returned  to my second home, Superdrug for a bit more retail beauty therapy. I picked up a colour for my friend Beth’s birthday, but all NYC nail polish was 2 for £2.99, and this colour screamed at me from down the aisle. My friend initially had a little squabble with me over who got to buy it, but eventually, I managed to convince her that she definitely had too many nail polishes (over 50!) and that she should consider my nail varnish education in this! The colour I got is ‘Lights-Camera-Glitter’ and it is a top coat polish.

‘Blue Moon’

This colour is a light pastel blue that has a small amount of iridescent shimmer. It is priced at £2.99 at Superdrug and is 10ml.
Pros: It glides on easily. The bottle is cute, and you get quite a bit of product for your money. It leaves a nice glossy finish and doesn’t flake easily. It lasted 3 days perfectly before I removed it also! It dries relatively quickly, I could move onto the second coat on one hand about a minute after my second hand had been completed.
Cons: The con is that it is extremely sheer. I know that many people apply nail varnishes that need 3 or 4 coats, but I don’t have the time! Any working person or hard-working student doesn’t have the time to sit around and wait for four coats of nail polish to dry!  The applicator could also be a problem, as the brush is thin and the bristles aren’t the best quality.

Final verdict: This polish gets a solid 3/5 from me. I really love the colour, and the finish is beautiful, once it has a few coats!

This is a gorgeous top coat with small silver glitters as well as larger, circular blue and silver glitter pieces. It was in a ‘2 for £2.99’ deal but I have no idea how much it was individually. All other NYC polishes are 1.79, but they are currently not available on the Superdrug website. This polish contains 9.7 ml of product.
Pros: The sparkles are amazing! I didn’t expect a lot from such a cheap polish, but honestly, the pigmentation is excellent. You get a lot of product for your money, and it compliments the other blue colour excellently.
Cons: If you want a polish that will evenly distribute its sparkle, keep looking for the one. I think I had to fiddle about so much with the larger sparkles that the polish became gloopy on my nail at one point. Also, this is a thick clear top coat, so more than one application is going to make your nails feel clogged and heavy, as well as the polish being softer generally. It takes a while to dry, and doesn’t last for long if you start moving your nails vigorously before it gets the chance to do so.

Final verdict: Also a solid 3/5. This polish is such a good idea, I just wish it was easier to apply evenly!

The look!

Has anyone found what they think is ‘the perfect polish’?

[…] NOTY (Nails of the Year) because I never wore nail polish. How times have changed! This was the very first polish I featured on my blog over a year ago! I would like to think that my blog has improved (and my photos too!) since […]
